Tips for elevators please!

My dwarves seem to always prefer the long way and skipping the elevator system. Typically they will wait in line to ride is down, but never up.

Any advice?

if your dwarves have any level of climbing at all, elevators in every way worse than even wooden ladders. the fact that the elevators have a max height limit that dwarves need to get off of one and onto the next, along with the waiting pretty much makes them useless

in later stage, after you have good armor, elevators will be faster.

Oooooook this makes so much sense as I might of given all 13 of my dwarves climbing books :P

Would you say that was a good idea or bad, just curious?

Its odd they all wait to go down an elevator (becaue of their speedy decent down the ladders) but not up (where they are a touch slower it feels)

My dwarves at this point are all rocking santa/silver armor

generally giving them a movement book, (climbing always better than swimming) a weapon one, and something else is a good plan. so having every dwarf know climbing is a good idea. elevators work if you dont have climbing, dont build ladders, and have heavy armor, but thats really it. doubly so once you have metal ladders, since those speed up even more. a fully mithril dwarf with climbing and metal ladders is massively faster than any elevator goes

Ok I feel like I’ve totally aced what I did w my skills then :)

And great to know about steel ladders, been eyeballing them up.

So for east west movement railroads are still king ? Been a bit since I’ve played and the game has seen some love :)

railroads are okay for the wide maps, but are pretty useless on the last map since its so narrow. the effort and materials needed to set up multiple levels of it on that world is really just a waste of time. by the time the path would be dug out, and the materials/rooms at the end explored, you're already digging up the railroad you had to lay out
