How do i stop vines from growing?

So i ended up building my base near a pond. I didnt think anything of it when i built my house, so i'm assuming that vines grow near a water source. I think i've come up with a solution to stop the vines from growing INSIDE my house, by building shingled roof and adjusting them in such a way that when it rains, the water will slide off my roof and over into the pond. However, since the pond is close to my house, the vines are starting to grow on the background walls close to the pond. Is there anything i can do to prevent this? Other then cluttering up the spaces with furniture, or destroying the pond (as its been a very useful defensive maneuver for me), or manually removing the vines as they grow, is there a 4th, more permanent option?

1. removing the back wall entirely will make it so vines can't grow

2. If it is in the protection of your actual house ("shelter"), vines should not be growing

I see.. both pieces of information i did not know about. This will actually solve my problem.

Put some torches, vines dont grow in iluminated areas.
