Fade in and out.

I have a problem. When i add the fade in and out the frame pauses for the whole fade. Also , when i'm doing the fade , the music and sounds don't fade along. What can i do to fix this?

Don't use the built in fades. Code your own. Make a single sprite and stretch across the length & width of the screen and use the SemiTransparency function. Rig your main volume to a counter and count it up or down during the screen fade. Then go to next frame.
