Firehawks/Slingshots/Buggies = No more Mothership.
Venom/Mantis/Stealth Tanks = No more Mothership.
Destroy the Signal transmitter = No more Mothership.
These units are there for a reason. Silly.
To me, the mothership is more of a 5000$ distraction unit, I use it only to distract my opponent which will focus on it (human opponent). You almost never land a single hit against human players. Use the mothership only when you're fine economically and with an escort.
There's only one thing to fear from the scrins, a massive attack from a bunch of Planetary assault carrier + devastator warships + (the mothership eventually). It even gives nightmares.
But if that ever happens, then you weren't fast enough to equal the firepower of your oponent or didn't bothered him enough. (Try a few coordinated tanks attack + capping engineers at the beginning, laught at the ennemy as he can't manage the assault because he rushed to the signal transmitter)
Still, when people do that, they just sell the buildings next to the mothership and shoot it down with a few APCs, venoms, etc. The cost that it takes to perform the cheese ($8000) isn't normally worth the effort, but it can throw your opponent off balance like you mentioned.
Also, teching straight to mothership would almost always end in getting run over by tier 1 units. Even if one were to get ahead enough and choose to win via mothership instead of conventional units, there are plenty of ways to deal with the mothership. A few of the most spectacular ones are:
EMP control center (instantly destroys mothership)
Reflecting 8 beam cannons off a venom (takes about 6 seconds to melt mothership)
Running into the mothership with a drone ship (old glitch, might have been patched)
There are plenty of things about Scrin that seem unfair, but the mothership isn't one of them. It's imbalanced and gimmicky, but not unfair.
You are not going to win with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mothership in a 1v1 or 2v2 vs effective players. 3v3 and 4v4 is possible but only on campy maps. Such as tib gardens. Also, simply attack the enemy? lel, simply attack them before the MS can be made. You cant 1 base MS on a map like Rift, or any 1v1 map. Also, then attack with Assault Carries? Sigh, if the enemy knows how to scout, and see's them, mass firehawks and tungsten. GG.
not like you took on 7 max dif AIs and won in 30 min;)
