kicking doors?

Random question for the populous. I have watched plenty of streams of people playing and when they go and kick a door it works but as I attempt this in my play through I can never seem to get it to work am I missing something?

Kicking only works for doors that don't require a key. Also, you have to kick it from the correct side, IIRC.

If the door swings out you have to kick it from inside and vice versa.

Tbh, I've never kicked a door open. The only time I've kicked a door is by mistake. I always assumed it was a pointless mechanic for something to be implemented in a later update.

It depends what side you're on, if you're on the side it opens outwards, the kick won't work. Also it won't work if the door is locked.

I just kick them in frustration when I don't have the key! :)
