Range finding
was sitting here thinking about accurate way to determine range to target without a range finder and then it dawned on me that the squares on the map seem to be aprox 100 meters wide, diagonal would be aprox 140m.

so if you know where the enemies are on the map you can set zeroing using this method.

I came to this conclusion because of the mission to find the black box... it states that it is aprox 1km away.

so if you count the diagonals down (4.5 squares or 630m and then go across for the other 370m) its directly on the crash site.

just sharing in case it helps anyone else sniping.

theres also the ability to just set a waypoint and look that way (probably the easiest way) but you can judge without doing this a bit quicker.

Correct. Military maps are viewed in grids and depending on the level of zoom, it can range from a four digit grid to a ten digit grid.

So, for example, zoomed out fully, each grid would be 1kmx1km and the grid reference would look something like 01 04.

If you were to zoom into that grid until it splits into smaller grids, those grids would be 100mx100m. Those grid coordinates would become six digit grids. Something like 014 042. The first two digits of your Northing and Easting are the same as the 1kmx1km grid you were looking at but the third digit now says "Hey, this is more accurate as it's in a 100x100m square. If we were able to zoom in more, you could get an eight digit grid which is accurate to ten meters and even further in would be a ten-digit grid which is accurate to one meter.

If you have experience with military maps, you could figure those out, anyways.

Your personal marker also indicates the range from your character, so you can also place marker on your target and range it that way

Definitely needs actual range finders and binos though!

Is ranging important yet? I haven't really seen any difference down range whether I zero my scopes or not, and i tend to do a lot of long range shooting when I can.
I also haven't seen a difference between zeroing the scope to 100m or xxxm.

sniping can be useful at fort narith and pha lang airport. most encounters are around 100m at best but there are times where zeroing can be a definitive edge, generally at longer range 100m headshot at 300m might actually be hitting front plate instead.

it's hard to really know how much drop is occuring so I admit some of what I'm saying maybe anecdotal.
Using an M4 with 6x scope, I notice bullet drop at around 400m. If I'm aiming at the head, it's hitting their chest area when zero'd at 100m.

I want a smart scope that adjust aim reticle for range and wind conditions.
