The key hunts are just the devs adding a challenge for the players. It's a lazy way for them to make the game more difficult. There's really no other explanation for it.
You don't have to be the one to unlock the door to do the mission. Why people are fixated on getting the key themselves, I don't know.
Asking for help is all fine and well to get it done once but I want to have the key so then when a friend needs it I can help them instead of them having to hope someone will be nice or shell out money for it. And when it comes to rooms that have decent loot and don't become useless after doing the quest, obviously you want the keys to be able to loot it whenever you go to that PoI.
Tasks with keys definitely need to be balanced. No one should feel story line locked by a key.
