And while the combat is made almost trivial by strafe shooting with modern controls, I still like being able to do it, it's never much fun wrestling with awkward input when you know how a thing needs to be done but you're wrangling buttons to attempt it.
For the most part the modern control conversion is a very good job, considering how the platforming is designed for a tank controlled grid of squares and the level layout is identical, it's good they even made it function.
It's just that single back hop off a ledge to grab it that is missing.
For now I have found that if i walk forward two steps with the guns out, then I back hop, Lara can put the guns away and stretch her arms in time to grab the ledge, so it functions, just awkwardly.
I think they need to patch the modern control scheme so that when you select it the D pad is completely separate from the analogue stick and functions only for controlling your jump directions, while the analogue stick maintains it's fluid smooth movement.
It's not as if anyone who picks modern controller scheme is going to do it with a controller that doesn't have analogue sticks, so i think removing the D pad and putting jump direction functions on it instead would be good.
lol, holy cow. Didn't even think to try that. Yeah, that's far easier than what I was doing.
At the beginning, I didn't do it either and used the roll feature.
Run towards the ledge and let Lara fall while holding the grab button (secondary/alternate). She will turn around and grab the ledge.
- Back stepping:
Hold the draw weapons button, wait for animation, tap backwards.
OR
Press Look key to toggle to look mode, hold back. While still holding back press look key to toggle it off.
