SimCity 4 Deluxe

SimCity 4 Deluxe

Linux Port?
Is there any chance of there being a Linux port of the game? It runs well under wine, so a wrapper port would be fine too.

I highly doubt it. The game is over 10 years old and Maxis along with EA probably have little desire to invest time and money in it. They have newer projects that will be their focus.

Well, that's a shame. Since they developed a Mac version recently I thought that they would possibly be open to making a simple wrapper port for Linux.
I think you might be confusing this with a later version. The Mac version of SimCity 4 was relased 6 months after the Windows version in June 2003.

Oh, well in that case you are right when you say EA won't bother updating the game.
I'm going to bump this thread cause I was just looking for possible solutions to that. I'm currently on linux (and have no access to windows pcs here) and was hoping I could play SC4. I can't download it on steam, so any way to play it apart from getting it somewhere else?

Is it possible to download a game on Steam for a different platform easily? Or should I try installing Windows Steam under wine for that? ;-)
So, I did a quick google and the first 2 results I checked seem to conflict if I'm reading them right...

The first one is someone saying they tried to download it through Wine and failed. The second is Wine saying the Steam version works...though I'm not entirely sure how they managed to download it.

Then I started watching this...

Try installing Steam through Wine, then installing SC4 on that install. Wine has gotten for better over the last couple of years, so I'd expect the game to run well without many, if any, issues.
So basically the guy is installing Steam in wine. Meh, wanted to avoid this, since I already have the "proper" linux version, but if I don't find any other solutions then oh well, I guess it won't hurt that much.

Thanks.

You can use PlayOnLinux aswell, but I prefer just using Wine.
