aging population
It appears that new residential zoning brings young sims. They then age. When they die, are they replaced by young sims or does one have to keep zoning new residential areas to get youngsters?

What I've noticed is that high-income residences tend to be filled by older families. When I build a small surburban town neighboring a larger city, the residential zone tends to quickly turn into 3x3 mansions/villas and such. These suburbs tend to also have an older population. If/when I build an elementary school in these towns, they tend to serve <50 kids for the whole town. On the flip side, they're all about their clinics and hospitals.

I don't know how what other people know about the age of population in cities, but basically I see it as:
Low-income = younger sims
High-income = older sims

It's worth noting that SIMs in this game are not simulated computer people unlike how SIMCity 2013 and Cities Skylines treats them as such so all of your SC4 Citizens are nothing more than generated numbers... unless you count those ones you create in the games Avatar mode, and still those SIMs are also non simulated living beings as they just report stuff to you based on numbers generated by how you play your city.

Maybe I should locate a hospital well away from my main city with just enough surrounding res area to house all the elderly that move out to be near it! : ) That raises another question - do Sims change residence or not? Is it better to think of poor sims getting richer or of the poor leaving and new rich sims moving in?
Only the SIM/s you created ever transfer homes as they get better jobs. As I said every other SIM in the game are just numbers the game generates. Just take a look at Residential homes (as in single family homes, not low rise and high rise apartments) for example the $$ bungalows. Do you really think an actaul family would consist of 15+ people in one house? The $$$ Mansions can be acceptable because their residents would include the house keepers and Butlers, but single families highly unlikely. So stop treating SC4 SIMs as individuals you need to satisfy, heck some people even create unhappy cities and are proud of it:

My population is quite old now. Can I expect a surge of youngsters as the oldies pass away?
