HEADS UP: NAM 48 had been hijacked! (now resecured)
Starting on October 4th (2024), downloads of the popular NAM (Network Addon Mod) for SimCity 4 had been hijacked, until it was re-secured on November 26th (2024).

This only affects those who downloaded the NAM from ModDB, and installed the mod using the batch file (which also assists installation of the LAA patch necessary for the mod to function). The malware in question is believed to be similar to, or possibly the exact same, malware that hijacked the Traffic mod in Cities Skylines 2.

Simtropolis was also providing this hijacked file from October 4th until November 26th, as file size limits on that forum forced its operators to link to the ModDB download.

If you're infected with this trojan horse, you would have seen a file named "version", with a file extension of .CPL, inside of the folder that you extracted the NAM Setup files to.

For more information, see the Simtropolis thread available here [community.simtropolis.com].

Why is this so common now??

Because it is an easy way to try to install this crap en masse into a lot of people's devices.

It is on a reputable website, and the hijacked material has a reputable history, so it will catch people off guard.
I am extremely wary of ModdB since this came to light. Such a shame that a few miscreants have to tarnish the hard work of others just to cause trouble.
Look, this was found out in the first week to 10 days and fixed in November.
This isn't news now. You can go ahead and download it and there's no issue since about 7~10 days after it came out.
This topic can (and should be) deleted.
