How to stop crashes?

Or is there any kind of auto save?

What is happening at the time of crashes? There are a multiple different potential causes of crashes.
1. Make sure the game is running on only one CPU core (as the game is single threaded) by adding -CPUCount:1 to steam launch parameters
2. Use SC4Fix[community.simtropolis.com]
3. Do not use Save and Exit to Region button. Save, then exit to region without saving.

For auto save you can use a launcher[community.simtropolis.com], but I prefer a different one named Daeleys Save Alarm (unfortunately temporarily unavailable).

Also relevant questions: are you using mods, and have you applied the 4gb patch to SimCity4.exe (bundled with NAM or downloadable from ntcore[ntcore.com])?

Following on to Stracci909's earlier post, I've just gotten Daeley's Save Alarm mod uploaded to SC4Evermore. It's under the Tools and Utilities > Gameplay Utilities category, and can be picked up here[sc4evermore.com].
