EA would find a way to hurt modders too, which is probably the single biggest factor as to why SC4 still has a decently sized community.
What I'd love even more would be a new grid-based city builder with a similar graphics style but optimized for modern systems with official mod support and more in-depth traffic and mass transit elements. Basically a combination of this game's graphics, difficulty, and building systems with Cities:Skylines' traffic and mass transit systems. Full 3D graphics are overrated in my opinion for games like this. I prefer detailed sprites or what this game does with it's pseudo-3D graphics that allow more detail without sacrificing performance.
Idk if I would say full 3d is overrated, but the one thing that definitely is would be the agent system. It's not necessary. It exponentially lessens the amount of citizens you can have, and the effect is negligible unless your following a single citizen all day and not playing the game. All you really need is the number, and some people/cars milling around to make the city feel alive.
The maybe good news is although I don't see any kind of remaster of this game happening, it's EA-Maxis tradition to release a SimCity the year before the next Sims game, so, maybe, just maybe, there will be another SimCity released soon in fact as Sims 5 is rumoured to be coming out in 2025, meaning another SimCity isn't unthinkable even if super unlikely still.
The way gaming is going currently, I doubt there would be mod support, as the current model is to put as much as possible behind a paywall and either dlc or mtx it for every penny they can get. Lets not forget the preorder and deluxe edition bonuses they need to throw in.
