SimCity 4 Deluxe

SimCity 4 Deluxe

I suck at Sim City
I'm kind of a noob to city building games, and Sim City 4 is my first. I usually get to around 15-20,000 then run out of jobs for people. Any tips on how to do better?

Can't you just provide more jobs?

Designate more Commercial and Industry zones.
What if there's no interest in either zones?

Then improve their Infrastucture. Commercials like well-used roads, industry likes good cargo transport infrastructure like Ports and Freight Trainyards. Theres also some otehr things to improve demand.
Is this your first/only city tile?

If so, that is pretty normal because once you hit the Demmand cap, you'll need to start on another city tile for Demmand and Population growth to start anew.

Take a look at this vanilla game playthrough to understand how to play purely vanilla:

Otherwise, you can just install the "Super Demmand" mod to ramp up the caps and build all you want. However using said mod breaks Regional Statistics in the long run.

If you're in a situation of no demand with low population I would say that most likely need to start another city on an neighbouring tile and connect them so they interact with each other.

Simcity 4 is game designed to be played with multiple cities, not just one.

If you want to get moe work, try to make a new city on a neighbor tile, connect them and build more industrial and commerce zones, together with more housing. Once you stablish a goo economy there, you should go and see your other city, then you'll notice how it improves a little bit.

At the very least - make sure you actually have connections (roads, hiways, subways, rails, utilities, etc) that make it off (of all four of) the edges of your city "tile".

Streets and zoning won't make neighbor connections, but just about any other draggable will make a connection; even if it is only to Sim Nation, each type (of draggable) should help some. The guides, back when, all gave stats on up to three of each type of connection to each different neighber; Sim Nation being just one such neighbor (but the only one you can get to from any side/border of the region map). Any connection(s) to another region tile can be converted from Sim Nation to a <city-name> connection(s) by starting a city on the other end of that(/those) connection(s).

Airports and Seaports can also make connections; Airports benefit commercial jobs (most); Seaports - if on water way that leaves city-tile - benefit industrial jobs (most). Ferry-boats, with the proper off city-tile water way, can make neighbor connections too; unmoded - there is a minimum amount of water way required in a city to get ferries; and there must be a ferry-terminal on each end of any such connection.

Thanks for all the wonderful replies guys, I used to only play with one city tile and get to 15,000 residents then flop. Now playing with two or more I've finally gotten to 100,000!

Listen forget all these guy's advice what you need to do is have your local police department target the african americans and once they are arrested, your expenses will go down by a lot and those kfc nigros won't be welfaring and freeloading your city. Good luck!

Seems legit.

You can inflate demand for those sectors by decreasing taxes on those sectors (industry/commercial). After you do this, demand will go up, and more jobs will become available. It will hurt your bottom line at first, but you can adjust as you continue to grow.

Taxes won't change demand caps!

However - taxes are another factor in the demand equation. Relatively higher taxes will drive some under-the-cap demand to a (one or more of) neighboring city; while relatively lower taxes will pull in (up to the cap) demand from one or more neighboring cities.

Make sure to build the rewards as well. They bump up the caps on demand. The House of Worship, Cemetary, Mayor's House, and City Hall are a good start to help increase demand. Eventually you MUST put down the stadiums to grow a larger city.
