Downloading on Steam from a disc copy

I have a physical copy of SC4, but it no longer works on Windows 10. I heard that you can use the serial code on the box to download on Steam without having to pay for the game again. Not sure if that is true, but does anyone know how (or if) that works?

I've got the deluxe version on cd, but i lost the cd key and i refuse to buy it agian, can someone help me please?

Well, I've heard you can activate the key on your CD copy via Origin, though there are downsides to doing so apparently as well, Origin is cancer. You maybe able to do it on Steam as well as I did it with Rome: Total War awhile back, but, don't quote me on that.

If, just by chance, you have a working copy still installed on a computer that you still have access to ... there is a slim chance of retrieving the CD Key from that working copy.
