12/30 Speeding Up Campaign Levels

Happy holidays! If you've played the Campaign Mode before, you'll be familiar with the level start and lives banner that appears before every level. If you have played a lot of Campaign Mode, you are probably tired of seeing that banner, so this small update adds to ability to skip it. Just press pause (escape on keyboard or start on most controllers) and you'll skip right to the level. Thank you to the players who requested this change!

Previously, this transition kept players waiting at least 5 seconds before they could player a level. If players had gained or lost lives, this this could take up to 7 seconds while animations finished. Now, by pressing pause, players can skip right into a level in only 1.5 seconds. Additionally, some animations have been removed when restarting a level, reducing time spent on the banner to only 2.5 seconds, even without skipping it.

If you are playing online, only the host can skip to the start of the level. If another player tries to skip to the level, they will immediately see their remaining lives, but will not load the next level until the host has done so.

Pause between campaign levels

Hello, thank you for responding to my review dev, I have changed it to positive assuming you will fix this issue eventually, yes I am responding to the banner between campaign levels. It may seem short in isolation, but with 100 levels after seeing it a dozen times it is incredibly annoying to sit and stare at a banner for 15 seconds and wait for level and lives to slowly appear. Please make it so pressing start or dash instantly skips the pause and continues into the next level. Thank you...

Hotfix for Treasure Mode

This small update is an emergency fix for Treasure Mode, which had been unplayable since engine migration. The mode is now fixed and playable. Sorry for any inconvenience that caused.

Additionally, Treasure Mode is slightly rebalanced to make matches faster. The default amount of treasure to win has been changed from 30 to 20, and tanks now lose a small random amount of treasure when they are knocked off the edge instead of a percentage of their total treasure. These changes should make it much less punishing when first place is knocked off the map. I hope you enjoy it!

UI Improvements for Controllers

A few months ago, I received feedback that Sumo Tank's controls were confusing for new players. This update includes two changes that I hope will help.

Dash Button Shown on "Ready Up"

At the start of a match, any tank that has not "readied up" will have its dash button (i.e., the "ready up" button) shown under it.

Steam Controls Now Shown In Settings

Previously, to view Steam controls, you had to either play the tutorial or navigate to the settings and open up the Steam Input overlay. Now, you can just view the controls directly in the settings UI.

Price Cut

Time really flies. Sumo Tanks is now over a year old. More than that, it has been 2 years since Mountain Peke Games released its first game on Steam, Puffer Pop. In a belated celebration of this milestone, both Sumo Tanks and Puffer Pop will be receiving a price cut. From the bottom of my heart: Thank you to everyone who has support Mountain Peke Games.

Miscellaneous Changes

AI-Controlled Tanks Renamed

AI-controlled tanks were previously called "CPU", which caused confusion for some players. They have now been renamed to "Bot (CPU)".

Engine Rework

Behind the scenes, Sumo Tanks been ported from a custom version of the Godot engine back onto the regular version. While this should be unnoticeable to players, it was a big change internally and I hope that it allows for easier performance improvements in the future, such as OpenGL support. If you experience any issues, please don't hesitate to leave a bug report.

Bug Fixes

Fix multiple instances of UI showing the wrong controller button
Fixed the tutorial UI showing an extra slash when a controller was not plugged in

Does the game support 8 local players? Does it support 8 gamepads? Has it been tested with 8 XBox controllers, which is an overlooked test case? (If you need help testing this I have 8 XBox controllers and 4 PS4 controllers.)
