Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box

Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box

Is it just me, or does this game have awful PC controls and menus?
This game has the most awkward PC controls I've ever experienced. A and Z for forward and backward motion, with left and right arrows for strafing? Why?

And where the hell is the options menu? I was trying to look up the controls and see if they could be changed, but it just lists my stats on the esc menu. I can't even find how to exit the game. I had to use task manager. This is hands-down the worst port I've ever seen.

I think you mean "steering".

I know it's easy to get lost in the menus.

After you open the menu, press F1 or F2 to switch tabs until you get to "Under the Hood". You should find your way to configuring your keys and controls there.

A and Z had to be used for movement since Up and Down were used for leaning when on a motorbike... assuming that's what you had in mind.

Sounds pretty ridiculous to make flight controls default for a racing game, I know. But it works in a way.

For me, I just re-binded the controls. I made the arrow keys the default controls for steering, acceleration, and braking. And, so I could still use leaning for the motor bikes, I made W and S the default keys.

I still kept shift and the space bar the same for boost and handbrake. You could try it the way I have it, works pretty well. :D

Reasons behind A/Z are, as said above, up/down being used for leaning on a bike and second thing, when you push accelerate+lean forward and then try to steer to right I think, it won't register steering on many standard keyboards/laptop setups as there is address interference, hence the use of A/Z keys.

Either rebind them to what suits your hands or use a controller.

By the way, default keys for movement in games I grew up on were Q/A/O/P+Spacebar, so I'm too old to frown about A/Z and cursor keys honestly. I personaly am happy with default game controls and wouldn't give a damn about some report!

I highly suggest getting a controller for racing games. Keyboard controls are abysmal for a game like this. Also, you have no analog keys on a keyboard to control how fast you're going.

Pedal to the metal I say! Especially in arcaders like BP...

But I admit, analog steering/axis would be great even here...last gamepad I used was ol'good Nintendo one, which had no axis but I should get myself some contemporary controller. Thanks for reminding me mate.

Menus are a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke. The interface is literally hidden, hade to google, and then found this thread. Were they joking?
