Crypt of the NecroDancer

Did a little "mapping" of the soundtrack's BPM
I was sort of curious what the beats per minute (BPM) of each song was. I found a little tool online that lets me tap out the beat and it measures the result. While this is hardly a scientific study, maybe now you can show some evidence to a friend of yours who complains at the game being too fast and show them that it really doesn't change all that much. For the record, a BPM of 120 means that there is a beat, and hence a move, every half second.

Order is based on the track list in the OST. (Buy that shnazz if you haven't, dernit!)

  • Tombtorial (Tutorial): 100
  • Rhythmortis (Lobby BGM): 130
  • Watch Your Step (Training): 120
  • Disco Descent (1-1): 115
  • Crypteque (1-2): 130
  • Mausoleum Mash (Title screen/1-3): 140
  • Konga Conga Kappa (King Conga boss): 120 (counting the skipped 8th beats)
  • Fungal Funk (2-1): 130
  • Grave Throbbing (2-2): 140
  • Portabellohead (2-3): 150
  • Metalmancy (Death Metal boss): 175 (Fastest song!)
  • Stone Cold/Igneous Rock (3-1): 135
  • Dance of the Decorous/March of the Profane (3-2): 145
  • A Cold Sweat/A Hot Mess (3-3): 155 (I actually measured just under that, but it was probably my error.)
  • Knight to C-Sharp (Deep Blues boss): 123 (Only song NOT a multiple of 5)
  • Styx and Stones (4-1): 130
  • Heart of the Crypt (4-2): 145
  • Wight to Remain (4-3): 160
  • Deep Sea Bass (Coral Riff boss): 125
  • For Whom the Knell Tolls (Dead Ringer boss): 140
  • Momentum Mori (Necrodancer 1st phase): 140
  • Last Dance (Necrodancer 2nd phase): 160
  • Absolutetion (Golden Lute fight, AKA what I'm never getting to): 120

The alternate soundtracks played for Aria and Melody should both have the same speed; I don't see why they wouldn't.

Well, that was my spur-of-the-moment project. I don't know if anybody actually cares, but now that I'm done, I'm going to BEAT a hasty retreat. :sans:

How accurate are these? I'd like to make my own unofficial soundtrack for the game

You shouldn't need to. When choosing a replacement file you're asked to time the beats yourself. You can even do this via a text file (Which is also the only way to get the shopkeeper to sing along with a custom piece.)

I'd hazard a guess and presume a margin of error of about 5 BPM just to be safe, but odds are they're pretty darn close. As I said, this was hardly scientific in its execution.
