Crypt of the NecroDancer

Crypt of the NecroDancer

Extremely long initial load screen
Since the game went to 1.0 and above, my initial loading screen sits like it's frozen for 60+ seconds before moving to the menu, and any keys I press while it's locked get queued and then all happen at once when it moves on, which makes it seem like it's locked up somehow while loading. The entire PC is frozen at this point--if I try to alt-tab out nothing will happen till the load is over, then it'll jump to desktop. Tried reinstalling the game entirely, no luck.

Never had this problem with the early access version, which blew past the loading screen in just a few seconds. It's not the worst problem in the world but it does discourage me from firing the game up on a whim when I only have a couple minutes to play. :\

Hi rudds! I'm sorry for the frustration you are experiencing. We're looking into this.

Have you tried manually deleting all your game's files from the SteamApps folder and reinstalling? Steam occasionally misses files when you delete from there. Click uninstall from within Steam to make sure it recognizes that the game is gone, the reinstall it. This should help.

One more thing you can try is unsubscribing from all mods.

If that doesn't work, we'd like to take a look at a log file. Start the game, hit F7 *once*, close the game, re-open and cause the hang. Then send me your log file, help at braceyourselfgames dot com. Log files can be found by right clicking the game in your Library and selecting "properties" at the bottom of the list. Then select the "local files" tab and click "browse local files". A window should open up and there's a folder in there called logs. Thank you!

Hi Wondo! If you could please provide me your log file (instructions posted above) that would be helpful. Also please verify your files through Steam.

I also have this problem, and I am reluctant to delete my save file. (I just beat zone one, I am very casual gamer! X3) How do I access the log files?
Hi Duck Hunt Dynasty! Sorry to hear this is happening to you. Have you tried the other suggested troubleshooting steps already? We suggest trying these steps first:

- Unsubscribe from any Steam Workshop mods for NecroDancer. After doing that, you should also fully shut down the Steam client and restart it to make sure that the mods are turned off.

- Verify your game files with Steam. (Right click on Crypt of the NecroDancer in your Steam library and select Properties, then the "Local Files" tab, then click "Verify integrity of game cache")

- Try running the game with no other unnecessary programs running to be sure that it isn't something else interfering with your game. Be sure to check your task manager and the system tray for any unnecessary hidden processes. Steam also lists examples of programs that could interfere with various functions on Steam. You should also try to shut down or disable any of these programs, restart your computer without them running, and then try to play the game. Steam's list can be found here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

- Manually delete all of the game's files from the SteamApps folder. Then click uninstall from within Steam to make sure it recognizes that the game is gone, reinstall it, restart both Steam, and your machine. If you are concerned about losing your save data, you can copy it to your desktop and then put it back in the Data subfolder after you've re-installed.

If nothing else helps, we can look at a game log. Here's how to do that: Start the game, hit F7 *once*, close the game, re-open and cause the hang. Then send your log file to: help at braceyourselfgames dot com. Log files can be found by right clicking the game in your Library and selecting "properties" at the bottom of the list. Then select the "local files" tab and click "browse local files". A window should open up and there's a folder in there called logs.
