The point of moving to the beat???
Hello! I am fresh to the game and wanted to know why I should move with the rhythm of my heart beat? For all the fuss about rhythm there doesn't seem to be any consequence to moving with the rhythm, aside occasionally from helping with my initial combat experience.

The FAQ page they flaunt on the Landing Page just leads to a flashy website without much specific information, or for answers for questions... which is the whole point of FAQs! Maybe I'm stupid for not being able to see the answers right in front of me or haven't played enough, but I really cannot find basic answers as to the importance of consistent rhythmic movements, which seems to be the whole selling point.

for keeping coin multiplier
You do it to:
1) Buy items in the shop for playing the zone
2) to increase defence/attack/light (if the item says so)

That is very helpful! Thank you :)
I'll give this game another shot with that in mind!

obsidian weapons get more damage for beat multiplier, keeping beat + no hit gives chests on bosses, some items break when lost beat
Oh you sweet summer child. Make sure to tellAria that moving to the beat doesn't matter.

You do have to use her to beat the main story.
Think of each beat as a turn, even if you don't move the enemies still get to. It's also just...how you move. As others have said, if you try to move off beat, you will lose your multiplier, but if you're fresh to the game, you'll probably be losing it from getting hit anyway.
two characters die outright if you miss a beat, so it's probably best to start practicing staying on beat earlier than later

of course, there are times when skipping a beat is optimal, but i don't like doing that unless i have to
Last thing you need is losing your turn just as that red dragon's about to breathe fire. Though there's always Bard if you just want to get used to enemy movement without having to worry about the beat.
There's a limited amount of beats for each floor, missing beats risks missing on items.
