Bard mode is WAY better than the regular mode... and that is a bad sign
Seems to me that the bard mode offers much more playability (an entertainment) than the regular mode. After playing without worrying about the beats system I realize that it adds nothing to the game, actually quite the opposite. Now it just feels like an ill-conceived gimmick.

How does it add nothing to the game? The beat system to me gives the game a frenetic pace that makes it much more challenging and entertaining, forcing you to think quickly and only react on the beat. Bard mode loses all that. It's interesting to try for speedruns and maybe to mess with enemy patterns, but it's way less fun to play that way in my opinion.

Yeah uh, the core mechanic of the rhythm feature isn't the difficulty from timing actions - it's the ability to lose actions, the fact you have to recognise and assess your location and enemy movements immediately and do something about them, which is extremely rare in any 'turn based' roguelike. It allows for a rare time where turn based and real time/high action actually come together, which is extremely hard to do - most roguelikes either reward slowing play down to a crawl or are perpetual action without much time for strategy.

"bard mode" is just a very easy mode. I don't see any issue with that, except if scores are mixed with all characters, but i don't think it is.

Think about this, Bard mode speed runs are risky as hell and probably the fastest ones.

This is a RHYTHM ROGUELIKE game. If you think it's only fun with the Bard, then you are doin it wrong and need to just play other more traditional roguelikes.

And if you can't understand what the rhythm aspects add to the game, then this game is obviously not for you anyway.

It only is if someone's using it for speedruns, which in other words means that one can act MUCH faster than you otherwise could with a beat.

so you suck at rhythm and planning on the fly, ok how is that the games fault?

I enjoy both Bard and regular mode, really. It's nice to be able to move around freely, but playing the other characters feels much more rewarding.

I'm just using Bard mode to fly around zones for diamonds and look for fun items. It's also amazing for training patterns against enemies.

When I feel like playing the actual game I'll go (put Bolt on) and fail at hardcore like everyone else. Bard is an extremely insightful mode to have for all sorts of reasons. Hey, if you like the game as turn based more, then more power to you. The rhythm thing's not gonna be for everyone. Stone Soup was my first roguelike love, and that one was turn based too.

The beat system IS the game. If you think that Bard Mode is better, then you probably bought the wrong game; sorry to say.

Since i have an awful lot of huge bpm-changing songs I often pick bard to play. Some custom songs may get a wrong beat timer :<

As has been stated bard mode is contrary to the entire philosophy of this game. In bard mode the game plays as a weak, simple and incredibly easy roguelike. The entire challenge of this game is being forced to move in the timing of the song.

Just when I thought I couldn't find a thread more wrong..
