2. I don't think there's any story for beating the game with characters that aren't Candence, Melody, Aria and the vampire lady. It's just another way to play the game (or challange yourself), the last zone's boss will always be one of the standard bosses if so.
Guess you could also do em for achievements/bragging rights but i'd wager it's too unreasonable for 99% of the players to do Aria/Coda runs. (Speaking of, if you still wanna see Aria's story bits, you could have Bard as P2 and control both turn-based style. Worked for me!)
Without DLC: Cadence - Melody - Aria
With DLC: Vamp lady - Cadence - Melody - Aria
All non-story characters are either easier or for the challenge and required for a few game modes (I.E: All Characters mode)
Beating Zone 5 isnt required for the story but can be played with any character (Unless your playing on any All Zone Mode modes such as hidden mode etc)
