Crypt of the NecroDancer

Crypt of the NecroDancer

Can I switch back to the old intro?
I do like the new one, but the old one really got me pumped. I half remember seeing an option to change it back, but I can't find it in the options, so maybe I imagined it. Does that option exist, without uninstalling the DLC?

theres no option to change it, however i'm pretty sure you could make a mod that replaces the intro_dlc files with their classic intro counterparts

I know literally nothing about modding but I guess I could try.

Wait, there's no option to see the old intro with Amplified?.. I've no idea what the new one is (yet, but they'd better add it until full release or I'm not buying! :insanity:

(btw, I'm really, really, really sick of waiting for it to come out of the early access... release it already! :poo:)

It comes out of early access some time in the next 10 days, apparently.

That would be nice, but where does that info come from, exactly?

There's a new intro? I'm not seeing it...

Well, I'm not seeing the old one.... it doesn't even show up when I start a new run with Cadence (aren't new players supposed to see it at least once?). What kind of "upgrade" is that, considering that Cadence's intro is better in all respects including music? :-/

I agree the music is not too special on the new one, but returning to the game for the DLC after a really long break, the loading screen did really get my blood pumping.
But aren't you supposed to at least beat the tutorial to access DLC content, including the new cutscene? So the new players will hopefully see the old one too.

I'm not seeing the new one no matter what I do, but I think it might be connected to some flags in my save file? Dunno.

For some reason, the original Cadence intro is my favorite game intro of last 10 years. I watched it over and over again every time I started the game, just because it's so awesome.

Nocturna intro? I watched it a couple times, noted the slight intended pun (starting with the same words), and just skipping it ever since. Meh. :bujoey:

I want my favorite intro back!!! :poo:

No idea. :SmileyRoehm: How should I know, with my pre-DLC playtime? :WinkingRoehm: It's not like I'm going to delete my save data just to check...

I'm having the opposite problem. Mine won't play the new intro. Any ideas?

To get the original intro back:

(1) Go to your Crypt of the Necrodancer Folder, find the mods folder, and make a new folder in it called "Original Intro" or something like that.

(2) Make three folders here: "mainmenu", "music", and "video"

(3) Go to the Data Folder. Find the Main Menu Folder. Copy "Mainmenu.png" and paste it in your mod folder "Crypt of the Necrodancer/Mods/Original Intro/mainmenu". Rename it "amplified_titlescreen.png" [Step 3 restores the original loading screen]

(4) Go back to the Data folder. Find the Video folder. Copy "intro_silent.ogv" and paste it in your mod folder "Crypt of the Necrodancer/Mods/Original Intro/video". Rename it "intro_dlc_silent.ogv" [Step 4 restores the visuals of the original intro, but not the vocals!]

(5) Return to the Data folder. Find the Music folder. Copy "intro.ogg" and paste it in your mod folder "Crypt of the Necrodancer/Mods/Original Intro/music". Rename it "intro_dlc.ogg". [Step 5 restores the audio of the original intro]

(6) Launch Crypt of the Necrodancer and watch Nocturna's opening. Don't panic, you have to activate the mod before this will work! Go to the menu, go to mods, and select "Original Intro". Also, check the box "Launch this mod by default" to ensure the mod runs as soon as the game launches, or you'll see the Nocturna intro again.

(7) If you pick another mod, you'll get the Nocturna cutscene again. You can make a custom mod, though, that uses the original intro, by copying the three folders mentioned above into whatever other mod's folder you are using.

I'd share this on the workshop, but the Steam agreement says original content and there's none of that here, just some file re-labeling.
Of note, if you watch the cutscene to completeion you get the normal loading music, but if you skip the cutscene you get the DLC loading music.
Hope this helps!

EDIT: Considering the confusion and difficulty in setting this up and getting the subtitles to work, I've set aside my paranoia and made a mod for it, for the players' convenience. You can find it on the workshop for this game.

Is this also possible with subtitles? And if so, how?

Well, I eventually did make a mod to do it for people who didn't want to mess with the files...

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1696024447

But...
I didn't get the subtitles working.

But interest like this is what motivates innovation!
I revisited the problem and I've worked it out.

In addition to everything above, you need to make a folder 'languages' inside the folder of the mod you're using. Inside that folder, make a folder 'english'.
Now, go to Necrodancer Data, languages, english, and copy both "Subtitles.xml" and the 'subtitles' folder. Place them both in your mod's new 'english' folder.

Now's the hard part. Open this new copy of "Subtitles.xml", select the text between <video name="intro_silent"> and </video> (the second block). Copy it. Now select the text between <video name="intro_dlc_silent> and </video> (the first block). Paste over it with what you've copied and save the file.

If you've done everything correctly, the intro should play with the correct subtitles. If you've incorrectly conducted any step, the game will crash when the first subtitle tries to load. To fix this crashing, delete "Subtitles.xml" from your mod folder and try again.

Or you can grab the mod I set up; I've updated it to correctly use the subtitles.
