The axe and the hammer both feel good, but not OP. And i'm almost sure you can't get blood/glass/etc. hammer and axe, so the restriction is actually balanced when you consider all the other weapons you could be getting that would deal more damage/have more utility.
The staff is pretty bad, but can be OK early on untill you find a decent weapon... not sure about it, i have to test it more but it seems very weak, maybe i'd prefer even the dagger to the staff, because of the utility to throw it to quick kill some early bosses
There are other variants of the axe/hammer and they feel a bit strong with those modifiers on them.
Going to second this, the Cutlass is absurd. It got me out of situations I had no right to survive in simply because I could target an enemy.
Otherwise, the Harp's great in a sticky situation. I'm thinking of wraiths/wights sneaking up on you in early zones or those annoying goblins from Zone 3. Think of it like a broadsword with more range. As long as it stays a mid/late-game weapon, it's a fine addition.
The axe pretty much obsoletes the rapier; after all, it's a great counter against the skulls from Zone 5. Its attack range is strange enough that it's still about as strong as other late game weapons, from what I can tell.
The staff's pretty much a weaker rifle (unless you get the glass staff). It's definitely a fun weapon to use! It may seem like a weak weapon, but it's not like every weapon in NecroDancer has the same utility. I can see the staff being useful in the narrow passageways of Zone 1.
Edit: The Level Editor and weaponmaster contain titanium/obsidian/glass/blood/gold versions of the Warhammer.
So yeah, none of these really outperform the rapier, if you ask me. The double-damage lunge and fact you just CAN'T get stuck on enemies with it and still attack from 2 tiles just makes it the best weapon you could find, still.
The new weapons are pretty useful though, doesn't hurt to have more weapons lying around i guess, but at the same time, can't go wrong with a good ol' spear or longsword, either. Simple but effective.
Wouldn't be suprised if the freezing ring gets a nerf sometime though, freeze on hit with ANY weapon at ANY range? Damn, that's pretty strong. Didn't quite figure out the parry yet though, is it like a ring of courage lite, or hitting one enemy lets you parry another's attack? Hm...
Wouldn't hurt if they could somehow clarify in-game how parrying works, i only ever did it by accident. :P
I do feel like it makes the game easier, but at the same time, it's a good thing to have more items, so I guess the question is, how can they balance it so that there is still a challenge with these new items?
From what I noticed, the cutlass parries when you attack/kill a monster, kind of like the courage on the kill dash ring. Although I haven't figured out if you have to actually kill the monster in order to get the parry, or if it's just attacking.
And regarding "warhammer OP", a certain Champion in lol who wields a hammer was op after her rework as well ;)
