My suggestion is that the signs eliminate foot tracking in a small area they are placed. Cuz what do you do when you see a wet floor sign? You step carefully.
I actually thought this was the function of the signs, but I tested it and it didn't seem to be the case.
Foot tracking can be disabled in the game altogether in the options, but that's no fun. I think it would be a cool mechanic to add.
May be helpful in multiplayer, but in single player, not really necessary. I think the foot traffic mechanic would be good.
I also don´t see any indication that a wet floor is a thing in the game, you remove the blood or any dirt but I´ve yet to see any gameplay mechanic involving wet floors.
It's only on Evil Science that there is a designated spot for them, which means you can get bonus points for stacking them there; but it's bonus only, not mandatory.
