It is with deep regret that we announce the upcoming shutdown of The Wagadu Chronicles MMO. Despite our relentless efforts, Twin Drums has not found a sustainable path forward to continue supporting and developing the game.

The last day online will be the 18th of May 2024.

We are really grateful to each and every one of you who spent time in Wagadu, creating memories and bringing this world to life. Your engagement and the incredible feedback you provided represent invaluable lessons to our team.

With your interactions, roleplaying and inputs, you ARE Wagadu. You have moved us forward.

Wagadu was more than just a game—it was a beautiful little virtual space that became a reality, because of your love. We truly thank you for making it possible and for joining us on this unique journey.

While this is very sad news, we very grateful for you as players and we hope you carry forward the spirit of Wagadu in other gaming adventures, virtual or tabletop.

Since you weren't able to maintain servers for more than half a year even tho I spend more than 20€ for your game at least release the source code for free https://steamcommunity.com/games/2464400/announcements/detail/4205876369753157106...

Early Access Review

Servers shutting down not long after release and, with apologies to the well-intentioned devs, it's easy to see why this didn't take the world by storm. Culturally, this is such a breath of fresh air that I was ready to accept a bit of wonky gameplay here or there, but most of it is straight out of the MMOs of the late nineties. The game conjures childhood memories of the tedium of Runescape (the old one - like I said, late nineties).

It was worth a shot and I learned a lot following the development journey, even if I can't recommend the game itself. Wagadu has shown there's interest enough in the rich domain of Afro-fantasy to launch a Kickstarter, even if its release showed there's not enough of an appetite in the community for click-and-wait MMORPGs to keep such a game running. Hopefully time shows us that Wagadu walked so the next big Afro-fantasy could run.
