It's not retro at all. Why would you think that?
Dude, this game has been the #1 target of the anti-woke mob for a few months now. I don't know who you're including in "we" here, but it's absolutely been mobbed.
Not as immersive as Elder Scrolls or Kingdom Come, but a lot more fun to play imo.
So yeah. The game is good, it just isn't what everyone expected/wanted.
I expected and wanted "the outer worlds" in a medievil format, and 4 hours in I feel like that's what it is. The gear progression is system is a big "meh" and there's alot of empty map it seems, Devoid of even NPC/Enemies which are my 2 big gripes so far, but I'm enjoying the gameplay, the graphics and the writing, which obsidian always do well. I actually care about my companions and their backstory, which compared to any Bethesda game is just "solo play please". That's the primary difference for me for this studio. After 4 hours in I'm having fun and will keep playing but also don't think it will make my "game of the year candidate" list. If a game can hold me 40 hours i consider it worth the cash.
I'm 10000% with you ref the pronoun stuff, but fighting the sad soft system we created isn't going to win them any sales. may as well tick the box and let people do as they want to do. If you're not a woke tit, you just click your gender and move on. There are boxes to tick these days. See cyber punk.
Suggesting obsidian don't know what they're doing however, is like saying brazil arent sure how to kick a ball. When you consider the best fallout ever made is agreed and recognised to be FNV by hardcore fans and RPG players, vs all bethesda releases, the people don't lie.....
Actually, it was kinda funny seeing the chuds wring their hands about player numbers. Fallout: New Vegas released to 50k players at launch, precipitously dropped to 15k players three months later, and only ever cleared above 15k like three times in fifteen years, and always only for a month. It seems to average 6k a month across a standard year. I guess that was a flop too.
If your like me and you didn't really follow development and had no expectations, its decent. I even played both poe games, but just didn't really get into the hype for avowed until like a month before release....
I can really see both sides, people who found a fun action rpg to kill some time with, and others expecting more and were let down with what they got.
