Avowed
Too colorful, Too bright, Too childish
Who is this game for?
It just does't feel like a complete title. Something feels off.

Not sure why people are clowning on this person for their opinion, they dislike that about the game which can be seen as a legit thing they dislike. I dislike it due to the boring and dull combat, the broken state it released in with all these bugs and the janky controls. Back to what he said, I loved bloodborne mainly due to the ascetic of the game, ascetics can easily make or break a game for people and what he is complaining about is the ascetic, he just worded it different.

Chrono and FFVI are still childrens game that is who they were aimed at and who played them.
I replayed both in the past 5 years when there was a huge steam sale on Squaresoft and they really are not that deep.
For a childrens game sure they could be considered deep for adults its just basic rpg storytelling.

It's basic RPG storytelling *now* because they were some of the games that set up the fundamentals for complex RPG's. They are the foundations that games today rest on.

They were not basic or simple *then*. And they were absolutely not made for kids.
They were absolutely kids games with a TEEN ESRB rated by the parent company.
That is the definition of kids games.
I am sorry but the creators of the games disagree with you.

I actually feel kinda bad for the edgelord teenagers here who feel like every game they play has to be dark and gritty because otherwise it's not "adult" and they're scared of playing games that aren't "adult" enough.

Hopefully in a few years you'll be over it and you'll be able to come back and give the games you wrote off a second chance.

You can enjoy games that have a darker undertone without being an "edgelord" it all comes down to personal preference. As stated I loved bloodborne due to its ascetics but I also loved stardew vally...

Teens aren't kids, teens are teens. It's like PG13--most companies aim for the TEEN/PG13 rating because it's marketable to both ADULTS and TEENAGERS.

Most games in the TEEN rating aren't appropriate for kids; it's literally meant for people 13+ to play.

The casual mainstream on consoles.

That is the audience.
Nothing wrong with that btw. What you can do is find something that caters more to you as a PC and RPG fan

Would you prefer if we went back to 2007 where every game released in that generation was the same shade of brown?
Yes.

Sad

They're clowning on the poster for the way they worded it. Equating colors existing to being childish is ironically a childish take in of itself.

It isn't all that bright, look at Larian's titles. It's just the sand and water that are really bright, but there's a lot of stone structures that are kind of dark. Good thing that it's not all sand and dark as has been quite the trend recently, which is less work on textures, look at The Veilguard for that example.

it's for fans of Pillars of Eternity, i.e. not you

Its one of the things that turns me off of this game. There is something about the entire aesthetic direction that to me looks really unappealing. The races, the landscapes, the lighting. And the mushroom faces... I cant. If they scratch an itch do the mushrooms fall off?

I would challange that. Mainly because I think the avarage Pillers of Eternity fans rather have a proper cRPG or atleast a more complex RPG game.. I know I do.
So the question is.. why did they not cater to those fans?

This isn't Pillars of Eternity. If they want to make another hardcore CRPG, they'll probably make another PoE game. They didn't want to make a hardcore CRPG, so they made *this* game.

It's not complicated and it's not some conspiracy.

yes, I would prefer PoE3 but I appreciate any opportunity to explore more of Eora. It's a spinoff of the series in a different genre, it expands the game world and lore, and I for one appreciate that. It's not PoE3 but it's not meant to be.
