Wizardry 8

Wizardry 8

Generation Xth series?
I was browsing thorugh Romhacking.net and came across this[www.romhacking.net], a fan translation for the first game of a Japanese Wizardry trilogy called Generation Xth by the developer Team Muramasa.

I have been able to find very little info about the game itself, but just based on the trippy anime sci-fi aesthetic, I know I would love to play it. Has anyone here ever tried any of these games and can tell me what they are like? I understand the Wizardry series is rather popular in Japan, compared to the west anyway.

It's probably wishful thinking to expect an official English release, but I figure there must be some demand for it if a team of translators spent all that time working on it for free.

It looks awesome from what I've seen. A shame I don't speak Japanese, however.

There's a game similar to Wizardry on here that isn't too bad. Elminage Gothic. It's a Japanese Wizardry-based dungeon crawler that I enjoyed. It's in English too.

Yeah that one is already on my wishlist, though I had forgotten about it until you mentioned it just now.

If I ever get some extra cash, I'll probably spend the $40 or so it would take to import the first Xth game, Code Hazard. I do hope someone plays through the english patched version sometime and puts up a review so I can get an idea of whether the game is a good one. Although since they made two sequels I would assume it has to be at least decent.

From what I've seen on youtube, it reminds me heavily of phantasy star 2, which I liked quite a bit. I do hope they translate it. There was a translation of the Japanese version of Wizardry 6 on the famicom that had better graphics and sounds and such, still remaining faithful to the original. It's good to see these games still have dedicated fans cheering them on. :)

FWIW I think Code Hazard is one of the better dungeon crawlers for the PC... certainly better than most of the stuff released after Wiz 8. I made a LP of it here[brokenforum.com].

If you have a Vita, you may want to wait until Operation Abyss: New Tokyo in April, it's basically a re-release of the entire trilogy (plus some extra content) as one game.

Thanks for that write-up. It's a good read. Although it makes me even more anxious to play it now.

If you're looking for a good version of a Wizardry game to play the SNES version of Wizardry 6 is probably my favorite in the series and there's a full translation patch out there.
