Dear God the impatience of people these days... Just had to rant there for a bit. That said, adding mouse support to the main menus wouldnt be an bad idea to avoid the standard newbie controls frustrations. I'd imagine it wouldnt require them to hire newer/better programmers to do that, atleast.
Movement: arrow keys
Light, Medium, Heavy Punch: A, S, D
Light, Medium, Heavy Kick: Z, X, C
Start: Enter
Select: F
Macro 1: V
Macro 2: G
The game was only $3.75
I was not exactly impatient, just kind of.... stuck. Whenever I get a fighting game on PC, the first thing I try would be to see if there's the option to change from a controller (XBox, or joystick pad) to the keyboard.
Figuring out the confirm and cancel buttons weren't too hard (I mean, when you've played enough games, you just know it's around the ADWS or ZXC area...). It's when I saw the "Choose Controllers" and I SEE the option to change to keyboard 1 and failing to confirm it that's really bugging me.
I suppose I could just try to remap all the buttons and just work with it... but it's just RIGHT THERE... and I'm not sure WHY it's not confirming. I'd even tried every button on my keyboard.
What I got was: if you're inside the "Choose Controllers" menu, the Left and Right keys moves the word "Keyboard 1" to either sides (Left side for Player 1, Right side for Player 2). Buttons ], \, A, S, F, Z and X returns me to the "Help & Option" menu. Yet when I go back in to the "Choose Controllers" to check my changes (just that ONE change, really), it still tells me it's the game pad controller.
I just want to know if that setting really is bugged, or if I'm the one who's doing wrong. Or if it doesn't even matter at this point and I should just remap the keys like many suggested. ...but man, it's just RIGHT THERE. Why would you make a page in your options and not have it work out? I also tried to "Config All" (under Controls), but that took one restarting the game before I got the hang of it.) The keys that were already assigned wasn't too hard to deal with actually, but seriously... it's RIGHT THERE. (I'm still pretty hung up on that...)
Either way, I think jumping right away to say people's frustration with game controls is a "newbie controls frustration" is a bit presumptious. I do agree that LOTS of people are impatient and do complain A LOT, but it's still problems that some gamers are having, and if a game only gears towards advanced or average-level gamers, then the game's not going to last long. Or more like that kind of mentality is not going to keep the game industry running. You always want new people joining in. Every gamer starts somewhere. (Some people can still do less complaining and more searching and trial-testing though... )
Besides, making the controllers set as keyboard first and allowing option to change to game pad controls are also viable. It IS sold on a PC plateform, no? Also, making sure that the confirm button for the "Choose Controllers" menu actually works shouldn't be too difficult, is it? (Just wondering).
It does seem like a good solid game, and I want to test out as much as possible before I decide if I want to buy it (it's free until 6 hours later for me), but just the inital stage of remapping and setting up keys (or failing to change back to "keyboard 1"... is it actually set to keyboard 1 already??) is not really helping the game.
I figured some of those on my own, but thanks for this. Makes things slightly clearer.
