Skullgirls not launching, help please
So I bought the game a couple of days ago and decided to try it out today but it won't actually run. Whenever I try from Steam, it prepares to launch but never actually does. I tried it from the Skullgirls.exe file and got an error code: 0xc000007b. Got a screenshot here for it: http://i.imgur.com/4PiHUE6.png

Anyone know what this error means? Looked it up online and got basically nothing. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

It could be a range of issues. First things to check that your drivers are up to date, etc.. (and if you're using a relatively recent version of windows, ensure that you have directX 9 installed apecifically)

If none of that works, run the game with the -log command line option and post the logfile to the skullgirls.com forums where the developers/community will be more likely to see it and help out.

This helped with a range of problems so it might be worth a shot here as well because hey, what's to lose.

The issue might be caused by the game trying to launch in an unsupported resolution. Try going to My Documents/Skullgirls/Save Data/<some big number>/ and deleting VIDEOSETTINGS.BIN. This should reset your video setting next time you start the game.

Please tell me if it worked either way!

Yeah I installed DirectX 9 and restarted my computer afterward, then tried to play. Still didn't work. I'll probably post the logfile later today if nothing else works. Thanks.

There isn't save data for Skullgirls yet because I haven't started the game at all. Ever since the first time I tried, it's been screwed up. Thanks anyways lol. I really wanna try this game out. It also doesn't work with the Endless Beta but all other games work fine so I'm not sure what's up.
Try deleting the local content (right click skull girls in your library) and reinstall it but with out in interuption like shutting your computer off. it worked for me

Disclaimer
The process i'm about to explain requires to modify or delete system libraries (.dll) if you're not accustomed to modifying such files, please refer to this guide to create a system restore point in case of any mistake
How to create a windows restore point [support.microsoft.com]

Introduction
Finally got it to work, this is a bit dangerous so please proceed only if you know what you're doing.

What is the cause ?
The error is caused by a faulty or wrong version of direct X .
Fix
  1. Navigate in your System Folder to " C:\Windows\SysWOW64 "
  2. Look for any file with the format "d3dx{number}_{number}.dll" where {number} is replaced by the version (will look like d3dx9_24.dll or d3dx11_11.dll)
  3. Remove them all (files with the format mentioned above), this process is dangerous, especially if you accidently remove something else. This is the equivalent of a manual uninstall of directX
  4. Reinstall the required directX version , this can change from game to game but the latest installer works for skullgirls
  5. Enjoy the game! You may need to restart the pc after the directX installation is done.
