why is this game not popular?
is it cause its a indie game? i like this game honestly just as much as ssf4, just kinda sad that the online feels pretty dead.

It may not be as infinitely active as other fighting games like SSF4 but Skullgirls is not dead. It's probably the conflicting timezones. Try playing during other times and you'll eventually get people to play withl

Yeah, man, this game is pretty hype and I'm sad it doesnt have an active player base.

Devs will probably stick around for quite a while considering that we still are going to get those 2 DLC chars (and also since the game puts major updates on everyday, i wish early acces games did that aswel :P)

I just like to assume that the PC market often does not have a controller of sorts and thus avoids games like these (even tho keyboard controls can be fine but nobody has time for research like that), yet again then i look at dark souls 2's playerbase and its huge

I'm just gonna say that this game is cursed, i truly have no explenation on how this game has this low of a playerbase :P (I'm slowly thinking of this game as the "psychonauts" of fighting games)

Skullgirls has a daily average of about 200 concurrent players so far this month: http://steamcharts.com/app/245170

Believe it or not, this isn't too bad of a number. Super Street Fighter IV has around 500. MK9 and Injustice I believe have around 300ish.

Even on console fighting games tend to have a relatively small dedicated playerbase, by nature they're just not the sort of game that can keep tens of thousands of people coming back constantly. Fighting games don't see frequent content updates, and their competitive nature can be very daunting, you can't just pick them up roll your face to victory like many shooters. It's not uncommon people buy them, play them for about a week or two after launch, and then forget about them until friends come over.

On the flip side, people who are dedicated to a fighting game, are *really* dedicated. They'll stick around for years trying to improve their capabilities if they really like the game. Fighting games are also usually one shot purchases, so they don't need a steady influx of cash to continue. Sadly, this also means making a F2P competitive style fighting game using the DotA 2 model might not be profitable, as awesome as that would be.

...That said! Some trends on SteamCharts suggest that once fighting games hit their core playerbase they start to see slow and steady growth over time. Which is actually the exact opposite of what most games go through. It's also possible this is the effect of more fighting games being on PC, and thus attracting more people to play them there.

Huh. He's actually right. This amount of players seems to be pretty average for non-Street Fighter fighting games on PC.

Xbox arcade sticks and some PS3 sticks work on PC. Qanba Q1 is a real nice stick and cheap considering it's quality. It'll run you about $60. http://eightarc.com/qanba-q1/

Later on if you wanna mod it for whatever reason, it's real easy to open it up and get into the guts of it. There are two real ncie videos on YouTube on how to open it and swap out the parts.

I play on keyboard and it's really good. the game has only 1 thing that doesn't work and it's grad with back direction cause of the ghosting on my standard keyboard. other than that it's amazeballs

Not at all. Even with the GFWL shutdown imminent I can still dozens of lobbies and near-instant random matches 24/7.
