Can someone please explain the controls
I started it up for the first time and I have no freakin clue wtf is up. I had to ctr alt delete to even close it......what the hell is LK and all that.....if thats a controller thing I have never heard of it. Is there a way to get a normal keyboard map that I can actually understand? I really want to try it but I can figure it out. Sorry to sound stupid if its a stupid request.

I see the scum of the fighting game community never lets a chance to taunt newbies or simple mistakes slip. What a disgrace...
Edit: Nevermind, you actually added a shorter list of controls. I guess i'm too quick with judging people these days.
Not to mention the large amount of trolls and general inhospitable behaviour of the players here...

Anyway, this is one of those cases of mash the buttons/press all the buttons, until something works. By default Skullgirls uses 2 sets of 3 keys as the control scheme, i'm not sure but these are either QWE and ASD, or it is ASD and ZXC.
The first mentioned row of 3 keys are for Light Punch, Medium Punch and Heavy Punch, in this order. The second row is for Light Kick, Medium Kick and Heavy Kick, also in that order..
Now a thing you should remember, Light Punch = LP, Medium Punch = MP, Heavy Punch = HP, Light Kick = LK, Medium Kick = MK and Heavy Kick = HK.

That's the secret to what the controls mean, when i started out i had the same issue so i tried stuff and it appeared the A button would let me select stuff. So if you can find a button, maybe A, or something else to select options, i'd suggest going to options and controls and doing that configure all option if you find the current key setup too difficult to work with. And if you're fine with most of the controls, take this oppertunity to remember what each button is set to what function.

Or atleast take note of what LP, MP, HP, LK, MK, HK, Start and Select are bound to, so you can navigate the game better. Personally i went and changed the controls but the default control scheme is said to work fine too.
And handy to know, Select acts as a global back button, you picked the wrong move/character? Select will undo that. And if you select a character with Start you can choose available palletes (and see their quick input combination), or use Start as you assign a custom assist (teams only) to set Peacock or Big Band's assist move to a taunt. (They're the only ones with a taunt right now.)

And that's about it, its a bit fiddly, admittedly, and would probably benefit from accepting mouse input on the menus, but it works if you try hard enough.

I really hate the defaults. I changed them to :

Up: W
Down: S
Left: A
Right: D
LP: NUM 4
MP: NUM 5
HP: NUM 6
LK: NUM 1
MK: NUM 2
HK: NUM 3
Start: G
Select: H
Macro 1: -
Macro 2: -
Analogue 1(?): -
Analogue 2 (?): -

I haven't used a keyboard since I got my arcade stick like ages ago
