If you don't know understand it because of not knowing which button on your controller is responsible for which attack, imagine the Skullgirls layout for what it is: two rows of 3 buttons. Upper row [X-Y-RB] for punches, lower row [A-B-RT] for kicks, both from light through medium to heavy.
That said, the default layout for a 360 pad is:
X - Light Punch [LP]
Y - Medium Punch [MP]
RB - Heavy Punch [HP]
A - Light Kick [LK]
B - Medium Kick [MK]
RT - Heavy Kick [HK]
LB - macro 1
LT - macro 2
Command grabs tend to be effective as well, since she likes to block a lot.
