Yep, those "Standards have evolved" again. Now watch this comment get shadowbanned like the last one. "Automated Steam review system" lol.
They've done a good job caring for the game and keeping it alive. The new characters are fun and the art is as good as ever, but to think that the devs hated the game I fell in love with, are embarassed by the edgy, unrestrained, horny content I enjoyed so much and look down on the fans who were drawn in by those elements just hurts, man...
That stuff never hurt nobody and we didn't ever mean any harm to it.
I really hope this is fake, or that the devs really genuinely just specifically regret Filia's age and the nazi-esque imagery (and not the edgy tone and fanservice as a whole), else I don't know if I'd ever get that taste out of my mouth.
It's like learning that the owner of the local board game shop thinks Tabletop players are no-life losers, or that the singer of your favourite black metal band became a born-again christian or that the one teacher who is nice to you actually thinks you're an annoying idiot. It reveals such an uncharitable, mean-spirited, patronizing mentality towards the work they took on and the fans who have stuck with them through thick or thin.
I don't feel angry or full of rage. The devs can do what they like and I hope the game continues strong for another 10 years, it certainly deserves it on sheer legacy and quality alone. But if the devs think their fans are just a bunch of nasty old coomers (even if we sometimes are), who need to be swept aside for the Heckin' Wholesome Doggo Steven Universe set, idk if I can play the game with the same sincere, unclouded affection I did before...
What this just tells me is that anyone who bought the game before censorship only liked the game because it was like a dirty sock. and should feel ashamed because they bought a game the developers hated.
And since Steam doesn't require an ESRB rating, they could just leave it alone to begin with. Just look at Dead or Alive Xtreme Scarlet. The Switch and PS5 version both have different graphics, and the PS5 version is censored, but the Switch version still gets to be left alone.
