Big Band's backstory being less brutal sucks.
Cerebella's clothes being ripped was hot and its lame they removed that.
All of the bondage scene edits are lame.
Removing content from a game with an update is nasty behavior that should be rejected. Especially when it's content that's as old as the game itself (10 years) and one of the game's selling points.
Remember, Rockstar released an unannounced update for the long abandoned GTA PC ports that removed a ton of radio music due to copyright. Please don't think this is ok.
That's honestly a worse look.
Don't worry I don't think those changes are okay, if it were up to me I wouldn't have changed anything.
I just don't really care about fan service but I know most skullgirls players like it and their anger is totally justified because those changes were clearly made for a group of people that doesn't even play skullgirls in the fist place.
Black Egret Armbands - GOOD RIDDANCE! This should never have been in the game to begin with. It's literally just because Alex Ahad drew it back when he was an edgy teenager thinking "Wouldn't it be funny if the good guys looked like Nazis?" But it isn't funny, it's just cringe. I've seen multiple occasions where people looking at the game for the first time have had double-takes at this and I've just had to be like "It's just like that because an edgy teenager drew it a very long time ago."
Art Gallery - In-house art had the armbands redrawn, guest art with armbands was simply removed. Understandable that they don't want to redraw someone else's art, but unfortunate that means it just has to be cut. But it's not like that art was erased from the internet, you can still find it all on the wiki if you need to see it that badly. It's not a big deal!
Filia burst comb - Eh, whatever, honestly just don't care about this one.
Valentine redesign - I'm sad about this, I was very attached to my girl and I don't like the new look as much. But they literally had to do this for legal reasons. This is the only case you can actually call true censorship since it's out their hands entirely. But, like, it's out of their hands entirely, that's the thing.
Big Band story - This one's kind of puzzling to me, because being about police brutality was the point, wasn't it? But also, I don't feel like putting it offscreen changes much anyway. Sometimes it can be more powerful to cut to black.
Filia story - Yeah, good, was just a little too gratuitous. She's 16 and a student, geez. Now the viewer's attention is not on the cringe and is instead on the action shot.
Cerebella/Eliza story - This on the other hand, seemed unnecessary. Bella's an adult.
Double, Beowulf, etc story - I had to pause and squint and I barely noticed any difference. Who cares?
Overall, I do think a lot of the changes are good, and the ones I'm ambivalent on are not worth getting upset about. The sky is not falling, if you think this is part of some apocalyptic SJW culture war conspiracy you need to come back to reality and stop listening to /pol/'s attempts to scare you.
This game has been ever changing and evolving for over a decade. I think you'll find a lot of artists have decade old works they're embarrassed by, and it's completely fair that if they want the game to keep moving forward, they want to touch up the parts they aren't proud of.
Chill. Please, just chill. Genuinely for real here, take a deep breath and settle down.
Also GTA5 being edited by the new team to remove "offensive" dialogs and character designs. Even without copyright nonsense nothing is sacred.
Basically what i worry about is the mindset and the attitude this represents. We should accept that artist's works are of their time, and may not reflect modern social values. Is that really so hard? Is the real answer here to preemptively censor whatever could be offensive to people? That sounds like the death of creativity to me...
Since you mention it, while there isn't an apocalyptic conspiracy, changes like this come from an evil culture. An evil culture that limits art, shames artists, hates depictions of "unsafe" things, and endorses censorship. If society was moral, no party involved would feel the need or pressure to change these aspects in Skullgirls.
Let's be honest - a big part of the attraction of the game was its edgy content. That was the draw, and what a lot of people discovered was a 2D fighter with surprisingly solid gameplay and plain, fun content. Come for Valentine, end up playing Peacock.
Hmmm... that may be poor choice of words. Ah well.
In any case, it seems almost like the same moves that Capcom has been taking with the Street Fighter franchise, and even some of the odd changes that Player First Games did with MultiVersus. Just because some people could possibly be offended the developers decide to censor.
The people in today's society are just too spineless, in my opinion. You see something offensive? Then don't buy it. Don't watch it. Don't read it. If it's entertainment, simply avoid whatever is offending you.
And developers - listen to the people who are actually buying your products, not some social justice warrior with an ax to grind. Otherwise, everything will eventually devolve into bland, boring content, solely for the sake of offending anyone.
Everyone I talk to who actually plays this game thinks this is a positive for the game's future. The only people getting mad don't play it anyway. In which case, go away and leave us be.
I thought it was just as baffling to remove it as Big Bands corrupt cops scene.
