Map a second player to a keyboard?
I have an arcade stick that works with keyboard inputs. I was able to get Skullgirls to work with one player. but I can't figure out how to map another player to the keyboard. Anyone know how to do this?:msfortune:

If i remember, you gotta go to key bindings, press \ (the one above enter, typically), and from there it'll do the standard press button for up, down, etc.
The \ key just seems to be the default key for that when player 2 has no keyboard controls set.

Oh, and make sure to go to controllers or whatever its called in options to set the stick and keyboard to the player 1 and 2 slots, by pressing left to set the device for player 1, or right for player 2, and just press LP or something to confirm.

Windows can't handel inputs from 2 keyboards at once. Its not a limitation of the game but the OS.

Ironically 2 keyboards works on PS3 just fine.

It's not that, I have an arcade stick that works as keyboard inputs. It works with everything else

It's an arcade stick, that acts as a keyboard input. So even if Windows can't take it, it still works. It always has.

I am having a problem finishing the P2 input

Well i'm not sure what problem you're having, but some of the final inputs can be cancelled by pressing the start button when it asks for a button. I always cancel that final weird thing at the end i cant remember the name of right now, that isnt a punch, macro or start/select/movement thing. Maybe you can use P1's start button, else try P2's start button.

An arcade controller like a SlikStik etc. is seen as a keyboard on windows. Works great in thousands of games in emulators and tons in Steam too so that two players can play on the same keyboard (as far as the PC sees) in the same game (Broforce, Vert Drop Heroes, Crypt of the Necrodancer...). Would REALLY like to see this happen for this game. Seems a shame that a game that so clearly evolved from arcade fighters can't be played fully on an arcade rig.

Devs, can you help or comment?

Thanks,

So, i take it you want both players to use the keyboard buttons, and use the controller(s) to press those keyboard buttons? Sounds pretty doable, and in theory it SHOULD let you setup keyboard 1 and keyboard 2 to a player each.

If keyboard 2 doesn't show up then maybe you need to setup existing key binds for player 2 first, or maybe the existance of a plugged-in controller makes the game forget about or cancel out keyboard 2? Just binding keys to both players and putting keyboard 1 and 2 on P1 and P2 respectively worked out fine for all the machines i've been playing this on, thus far (including the laptop).

The developers don't typically show up on the Steam forums though. If you really need their help you're better off posting in the Skullheart Forums, or whatever it was called again...

Not exactly. Forget the arcade controller as I think you are imagining something different. What we are looking for is for BOTH players to play on the same, single keyboard. No second keyboard. This would allow all of us that want to use our arcade cabinets for this game to do so. Thanks for your thoughts.

I will check the Skullhear forums.

Hm, litterally use the same keyboard for 2 players? Or just make the game think you are? As long as you bind different keys to P1 and P2 (no overlaps or shared keys), it should be quite doable. That's about as good as it will get without having to resort to 3rd party tools and software.

Unless i'm still not getting it somehow... But it helps to note that the keyboard treats 'keyboard 1' and 'keyboard 2' as one single keyboard connected to the computer. So if they both use the same button for LP, that would cause conflicts, but if they use different buttons for it, that's fine.
If you where to connect a second keyboard to the PC/laptop, it wouldn't really change anything, as you can still, say, trigger P1's LP button from either keyboard, so you still can't have overlapping keys. Maybe that that helps. It's kinda tough to get multiple keyboards working well on this game.
To edit the P2 controls in your keyboard follow these simple steps:

  • Open your Steam, go to your library and go to your Skullgirls page.
  • Click on the cogwheel and then click on the "properties" button.
  • Click on the "Set launch options" button and put "-multikeyboard" on the bar, then accept it.
  • Launch Your Skullgirls and go to the "Help & options" menu and go to the"controls" menu.
  • Prepare your P1 buttons, there must be a key with these icons "° | ¬" on your keyboard, press that one!
  • Now you can edit the P2 controls.

Now go and enjoy the Skullgirls fan-service with your friend, brother, sister, cousin or whatever you want!
