MikeZ's response and explanation to the Sonicfox drama + refunds
Just dropping this here (it has already been mentioned but for visibility I think it deserves its own thread):

You mean Severin?
I haven't played in the Ball Room stage with that NPC set, so I haven't seen it myself

Just wanna point out that the game already checks for and forbids certain other mods. You can't edit palettes because backers paid for those, and I don't think character sprites can be modified either.

just wanna point out that you would still have to go out of your way to patch out a mod and not fixing it takes infinitely less effort than fixing it

I do wish I could make or mod my own palettes in game like a steam workshop of sorts but I have a feeling thered be a sudden increase in poorly done nude mods.

Not Sonicfox's biggest fan or anything but beyond noticing when it showed up I literally forgot it was there because I was actually, you know... training. You can already pick a different stage and they even suggested the mod so I honestly don't know what the issue is. I guess it sucks for console players, but you can just not choose the stage after all.

I hate this reason, because if you hit random you can still get Training as the stages cycle on Rematch.

I personally would take more umbrage with the fact that someone went "Oh do not worry, we know there is a mod for that, why don't you just use it"

Someone is forgetting they are not Bethesda. At least with games like Elder Scrolls everyone and their dog ( at least on PC ) knows that you are going to get a much more attractive & competent game experience if you install at least one mod. Skullgirls at least used to be something I would not even have to bother installing a mod on to make something objectionable go away.

This crap still going? Big props to Mike Z for being calm over this nonsense but I feel offering refunds is not the right way especially when there's people mad over this controversy that don't play the game. If Lab-Zero wanted the best way to please everyone, it's to:
When selecting the stage, press and hold the needed buttons to get Sonicfox stage instead and same for any other cameo stages. Maybe for Casino stage, you can hold certain buttons to get only fighting game reference cameos like the dogs dressed as Guile and Chun-Li?

I am sorry, if you want to play Phoenix Wright in this story then you better come up with a solid logic reason.

That's exactly why Mike offered refunds. He knew a lot of people asking for refunds don't even own the game.
Yet, he seemed unsure about people who actually own the game, but don't play it.
So far it seems nobody has asked him for a refund, it just looks like overblown forum hate.

Early in the controversy, Mike Z considered using a button combination to pick different versions of the Stage. But since the mod came out (a mod Mike Z allowed), I don't think he'll do that.

Right now, if you pick the Play Again option in a Stage with multiple variations, the game will cycle through those variations, no more random changes. I think Mike Z might leave it there.

More options for the player is always better. Can't just remove options form the player and tell us to be grateful that we can even play the game. It's my property once I buy a copy. I shouldn't have to mod a developer oversight out of my game. I don't even know what this ♥♥♥♥ it is. I just reinstalled after watching some tournament play, and I return to the unfinished tutorial, and the severe teacher is replaced with a very flashy and distracting LOOKATME character.

EDIT:
And let me just ask. Why are you saying he (((allowed))) a mod? The way that quoted text from the blog post, that's called a threat. I don't see how this dude, is being generous. Because I can just go in and delete files until the game does what I want. He's not doing anyone any favors, and he is certianly not being magnaniomus.

As controversies go; this is probably the dumbest thing you could get worked up over.

You've got refunds. You've got the mod. If you're on console, you can just stage select to get Victoria back if looking at the blue furry character offends you so.

♥♥♥♥.
