Is Skullgirls dead, or dying?
I'm considering getting Skullgirls, but i just want to know if the game is at the end of its life.

With it not appearing at EVO, and with only about 200 players in the last 24 hours

is it worth buying for online, or should i just move on?

How does any of this influence the active userbase of the game in question, though?
MikeZ's autistic behaviours did bring a bit more attention to the game through the controversies alone, but anyone who found out about the game that way has long abandoned it (leaving the same core players it's had for a while).

Dunno honestly, I wouldn't even consider it was that big of an influence (but it depends from person to person, so who knows).
In all honesty, it's still a solid game, it has a fantastic netcode, gorgeous artwork and spritework, and I'd even like to argue it has gotten a bit of a cult status in a good way. But all things considered, it is an indie fighting game in the end, and thus won't have any greater bumps or boosts unless there's tournaments around where it can be promoted - and with most of those possibilities gone with the fact of the biggest tournaments shutting down thanks to the WuFlu, I don't know what can be done.

It's still strong in numbers like KI (if you combine all the userbases via crossplay), but without the aforementioned boosts, nothing new can be done really.

Honestly I dont think it'll fully ever die unless the online goes but at the very least itll live on like Darkstalkers where it'll be one of those games with massive amounts of fanart and fan stuff even decades later.

Indivisible is... okay. I like the platforming, I'm a sucker for cool movement abilities. It's honestly fun to fool around in the training mode sandbox, they did a great job giving the playable characters a variety of unique tools to tinker with. And of course the animation and characters are all great, it has all the charm you'd expect from Lab Zero.

But actual combat falls short because just rolling your face on the controller produces the same result as the fanciest training mode combo you can come up with, and defense is trivialized when you get the upgrades that negate chip damage and even convert it into healing. Balancing is also rough even after the one patch it got.

It just sucks that there's a lot of clear room for improvement that will never happen now.
Thanks for the insight on its flaws. Im still fully willing to give the game a shot of course since my last experience was the alpha demo thing. I also love a lot of the character designs even if some changed to ones I dont quite like as much as the original looks over the games development.

I think its still going alive and well. This is coming from someone who just got into the game. Plus we got the mobile version.

So what Mike said about working for free on this game was true. Also, even without the "allegations", everyone was furloughed before that cause they were broke. Guess the "harassment" bit was just an excuse after all.

I love Karma.

This note is interesting.
This should have been posted in it's own thread.

Yeah, I probably should have did that. More or less confirms Annie ain't coming without CANCELLED Mike Z's help.

How many times are you going to repeat this lie when you've repeatedly been told she's coming?

Try KI, it's a good rollback FG and has a solid crossplay in it's casual/lobby audience.

even if it were to completely die it's still a really good game
BabyVox 2020 年 12 月 22 日 上午 12:56
tbh it has a large playerbase. just that mainly 300 are online at one time and rotate out so you dont face the same people too too often. maybe for a week or so then here & there, but the matchmaking is pretty solid. then on top of that, if you're getting better, it seems like it also matches you against people who are even better. maybe im imagining but i feel like it's been consistently happening. it's solid.

and also i feel like when annie hits people will play even more.

It's not dead to me. People can say it's dead, but my look on it is "Something isn't truly dead until it's forgotten." Skullgirls isn't the most popular, but it's still a popular game and I think it's gotten more popular since It got put on the Switch. Heck there are the dedicated few (including me) who think a Skullgirls rep could get into Smash Bros. So dead or not, even if the community is ♥♥♥♥♥ to some people, the game is still fun.

Nah, skullgirls has been up and running for almost 10 years now.
there are lots of people who are actively playing it, but it's true that most of them are veterans, new players aren't that many, although there was a lot of new people around since SG was annonced to be in I can't remember which Fighting Game Turnament.
