So I get the impression Keen is still doing everything in its power to NOT add a full API to the Programmable Block... I spose it's useful for simple things though - going to save some time there.

the way this is demonstrated it looks almost exactly like how the pb block sends messages via antenna, which makes me ponder if these new blocks can be used in place of scripts to respond to something a pb script sends....

So exited for this update! Also cool that it was showcased by one of my favorite youtubers!

Cool blocks. Still not what the games really needs though.

... the contracts block ... only works on NPC stations, so you still can't add custom missions to it ...

That is clearly untrue, though perhaps a misunderstanding somewhere ? I have on many occasions built a contracts block for the sole purpose of creating and then taking on a search contract for a ship I have misplaced on a server.

I guess perhaps what you mean is that you can't add missions that need to spawn in other entities like NPC ships ?

I mean if you place a contract block as a player, there are no missions at all.
Sure you can add some but that's not really funny if you have to create your own missions.
Maybe the one case that you mentioned is a funny one but in generall you want to earn money so you can buy ships and stuff from the vendor machine..
NPC missions only spawn on NPCs station, that's why all MES (mod) bases and other fancy custom created bases with a contract block are pretty boring and the block is therefore usless for me.

You expect too much from a system which was developed and added way after the game was originally conceived and developed, and is not a core part of the game, nor will it ever be. It probably only appeals to a small minority of players. Sorry, but there are other games that have way more of this kind of gameplay, it's just not a big part of Space Engineers, and I doubt it will get any more attention at this late stage in the game's life cycle.

I wish that was true. As I've mentioned earlier, a "purely cosmetic" dlc shouldn't contain any new game-mechanics added to the game or resulting in advantages over vanilla players. Whereas in this game, most of the dlc's are expanding on the gameplay in one way or another.
How knitty-gritty are you gonna get? You can't have a block that looks like it does something, and doesn't do anything. How many DLC doors have functions to them? All do!
Now for PCU, I get what you are saying but some things make sense having less PCU. Take for example the cylindrical columns, a DLC block that has less PSU than what players that been using for years, the 1x1 wheel. For me, it makes sense because a cylindrical column is not doing what a wheel does. A wheel is meant to be moving, and is meant to absorb things hitting them to an extent. All a cylindrical column is doing is structural/ aesthetics. You get my point?

I can't figure out why DLC defenders do so. They fail to understand they are permitting themselves to be locked into perpetually renting software. They don't seem to realize that despite a single DLC being a relatively small price, DLCs can (and will be due to market forces) be added indefinitely.
They also spout nonsense claims like keen needs the money, or imply that keen has good will, despite them wasting SE funds on GoodAI, or their persistent awful handling of the game.

Without a doubt SE should've ended development before any DLCs got in the game.

I am trying not to blow up here but HAVE YOU SEEN OTHER ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GAMES ON STEAM!?! Warthunder is a free to play game, but as over $1000 USD in DLC's. Snowrunner has $175.67 USD in DLC's. Helldivers 2 has DLC content. Baldur's Gate 3 has DLC. You cannot escape DLC's. Gamers could have stopped it, but did they? NO! You could just not buy it, that's an option. No, you have to ♥♥♥♥♥ and moan about it, while creating false narratives. All you are doing is poisoning the well for new players because "oh gosh, it has DLC's, heaven forbid it has that for the game!"

You do realize that all games on Steam, and for that matter all online storefronts are digital copies, right? Key word of advice, read over what you say before you post, otherwise you will look like a total numbnut.

Edit: I try so hard to listen to the other side's opinions, but when what the say is so outrageously false and then spout claims that I, and others are shills, whiteknights, what have you, it makes me believe the people that have genuine criticism are in a smaller percentage that keeps on shrinking.

This game is getting more post-release support than any other game in my library, kudos to the devs. This is rare as hell to see nowadays.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!!!

Post game support? ROFLMAO!!! GIVE ME A BREAK! The only reason they release 'UPDATES' is because they will launch another Pay For DLC with it. They are milking this cow dry.

Would rather they fix the 10 year old bugs that still plague this game. Modders have done 1000X better at making this game worth playing than Keen has.

Ah ok just "milking it"... why have they added the autonomous update, I mean it could have just been a dlc and not taken resources away from working on the new engine, or maybe just maybe they care enough to work on this game a bit while wanting to fund the new engine they are making for SE2

Edit: and as stated by many others before, THE DLC's ARE COSMETIC NOT CONTENT, you do NOT need to buy them to enjoy the game

I don't think so at this moment, but when the update is released (tomorrow ?) it will be on their support site at https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/announcements

Nope, sorry, I can't be bothered trying to watch and decipher videos with the production and narration standards of something from a nine-year-old either ^.^
