Asteroid Base with breathable atmosphere
After a few hours of searching, I found a massive asteroid without any caves and I started to dig a hole in and built an airlock. This small ship sized airlock is now almost finished and now I'm wondering if I can start to pump air in the cave and if the game sees the cave I mined as a closed space.

No. Any areas NOT covered by man-made surfaces (walls, windows or doors) will not hold air. In game-speak the game does not register the asteroid voxels as sealed. According to a friend of mine, this is actually quite realistic since an asteroid might be porous and thus leak in real life anyway.

Good question though...

What a pity I would like to see the Asteorid from inside rather to cover everything with blocks, but thank you for the info.

Use windows. Turn them so the clear side is on the inside and you'll get a pretty good view of things. Take up less room than a big block wall too.

My hope is that once the game is closer to completion it will involve something like cement or spray concrete that we can use to seal an asteroid and yet retain some of the cool shapes that form naturally.

you can cheat if you wish, if you make a room then use voxel hands to cover the walls in stone, or drill a wall cavity into the asteriod bigger than you want the room you want to have and place blocks into the cavity then it will allow you to have oxygen in there.

It's a shame alright....no Hoth-style asteroid bases...

Perhaps with planet update? surely they'll expect people to make bases under the surfaces of oxygen-less planets

Probably (and hopefully) not. The porous material that makes up a large amount of rock and minerals would limit its ability to maintain a pressurized atmosphere. I would like to see a way to maybe spray voxels over an area, or compound blocks that take up less space. I can dream.

Not sure if this answers your problem but look up concrete mod might do the trick
