O2/H2 Generators not pulling Ice
So I'm on a planet with a breathable atmosphere and I don't have much need of Oxygen. But I do have a great need of hydrogen to power the hydrogen engines of my huge rover that can't realistically charge off of solar alone.

I find Ice readily enough, but after a while, hydrogen production stops - because the oxygen tanks are full. Well what do I do with this oxygen now? Obviously I could grind down the tanks and rebuild them, but I'd strongly prefer some kind of automated solution.

Or am I doing something fundamentally wrong and this shouldn't be an issue in the first place?

It shouldn't be an issue...

The hydrogen production is not dependent on whether you are making oxygen or not. You can simply have an O2/H2 generator hooked up to a hydrogen tank. That will simply generate hydrogen and fill your hydrogen tank. No oxygen tank needed.

If it doesn't work, then something is wrong in your setup or you have some kind of glitch. Try first simply reloading your game if it clears it. If not, then hunt for some kind of problem in your conveyor line from the O2/H2 generator to your hydrogen tank. Might have a damaged block somewhere.

Oh, and you *do* have a hydrogen tank, right? A dumb question, I know, but just to make sure that you actually have a place where the O2/H2 generator can store the hydrogen...

Yes I do have a hydrogen tank. The problem seems to be that the O2/H2 generators won't pull ice. They work fine if I slot the ice in manually. The conveyors should work, too, since I can move the ice through drag'n'drop in the inventory, too.

Hi, why have you added Oxygen tank on Atmos planet ?

-> in my opinion, you just have to remove the Oxygen tank if not needed.

Ice always go to O2/H2 Gen automatically and a Sorter that creates a "One Way" can prevent transfer.

Best not to use a Sorter on the O2/H2 Gen conveyor line because it's already auto without the Sorter block.

Example on 2 stations in 1 so Automatic Gas station + Automatic Factory station :

I will add :

Sorter will be needed only to empty the blocks that keep their inventory by default, like connectors for example, O2/H2 Gen are not be able to take the ice in connectors.

Roger, I'll try to double-check my conveyor network. Thanks for the advice!

Nope, there is no sorter that could affect the ice. The ice is in several containers all of which are connected to several O2/H2 generators through multiple conveyor paths with no sorters in the way. There is power, there are half-empty hydrogen tanks connected on the same conveyor network. I can drag'n'drop the ice from the containers to the generators through the inventory screen. When manually feeding the generators, they work and supply the hydrogen tank. The generators and containers are set up correctly in and of themselves. Nothing is disabled. The oxygen tank is unnecessary but also does no harm. There is enough power. I have restarted the game several times over. I have rebuilt the generators. I have moved the ice around every which way.

Have you got the "use conveyor" option on for the blocks? as you can turn it off on blocks.
WheelChock Nov 7, 2024 @ 3:17pm
Have you tried turning the Oxygen tank off? Sounds silly but its what I usually do under similar circumstances.

Just share your save here, I will load to find the solution for you.

How to save a world in your Workshop :

1 - Select your save.
2 - Click the "Publish" button on the left.
3 - Choose a proper Tag, check Steam upload and click the OK button.
4 - Your world will be uploaded to Steam Workshop.
5 - Paste the Workshop item link here.

"Use Conveyor" is on.
Haven't tried turning off the Oxygen Tank, but will try that next time. Though to be clear; the problem existed even before I had built an Oxygen tank.

Here's the save file:

Damn. Thanks for checking that. Seriously unexpected, but I suppose I'll need to take a long, hard look at my scripts. They certainly don't intentionally do anything to the containers or generators, so there must be some unintended side-effect somewhere.

Thanks for the debugging help! Have a very nice day!

You're welcome, Engineer!

I will add :

I have created a small station grid having only one Wind Turbine, a O2/H2 Gen with container and the ice went to O2/H2 Gen auto, that gave my the first Clue as to know it happens only on your Rover and why I turned OFF the Programmable blocks.

I definitely avoid scripts at all costs
