Build a medical bay or survival kit on the base and make sure it is powered. And have it belong to a group you are part of or built it yourself. Then you should get to choose where to spawn in the spawn menu.

Grind down the survival kit from the drop-pod/drop-buggy and build it on the base. You have enough medical components to do so. Just need a few more other parts that you can build beforehand in the survival kit or in the basic assembler.

If you have more than one medical room or survival kit, you'll get a choice where to respawn.

Only if the 'autorespawn' option is disabled.

Good point. I missed that nuance.

Also, for moving your Survival Kit over to the base, you'll be happy to know that both the large-grid and small-grid versions use the same number of Medical Components. You'll need a few more OTHER parts for the larger version, but you won't need to scrounge up extra silver/Medical Components.

Personally, I like having the means to respawn at my craft in the field, just because it's a pain to have to go from base to the mobile craft and recover the old body/inventory, before the old body despawns and the inventory lost. Also, that craft may be a LONG ways away from 'home'.

True @Buzzard. But mobile craft can get their batteries lost or otherwise crash total-loss. And survival kit is quite a powerdrain in the long term when you do the numbers. You would need to be assured of a good powersource while on the move. Might be better to have it on a powered base with basic facilities to grind up again from. You can always spawn with a new droppod and modify it with gyro, remote control block to a helicopter-like controllable flying grid. And fly back to a waypoint at the base. Might take a while and some piloting skills though.

Oh, starting bases get the priority on respawn points. Later on, when some of the creations are able to go out further and do more stuff, having that 'Kit along can be a blessing. Of course, I'm one of the oddballs that makes mini-motherships out of small-grid craft to go roaming with. I got tired of losing craft just because the nearest respawn was 75km or more away from the base, or not being able to heal up fully when something surprised me. After installing the 'Kit on my creations, I haven't lost a single ship. (limping back to base with half the ship or more missing or non-functional still counts as 'not lost', right?)

I built another survival kit on the base and then destroyed the one in the pod. The GPS item for respawn still points to the pod location however. Haven't died since then so don't know at which site, or if, I'll reappear

This GPS location will point to the original respawn pod until the block within it which has the GPS binding is destroyed. I do not remember precisely which block that is. You need to set your own GPS waypoints and not rely on that one after you've partially destroyed the original respawn pod/ship.
