the only choice to get cobalt is to use the hydrogen bottle (drop it in your inventory) and try to find it somewhere around.

Or: if you have a NPC Trader around - try to buy some

well obviosly you need to get around to find cobald which exist on planets. However an ore detector greatly helps in doing that.
Another method you can use it the use of a mod with the Mogwei squashers that transfer stone into low ammounts of all materials.

hmm... okay thanx ... meanwhile i did build a "rover" with a ore detector,,and cruising arround but no dammnnn cobalt :(

Cobalt, you'll need a bit later. First, you need to use that Survival Kit to build up at least a Basic Assembler and Basic Refinery.
The Survival Kit will NOT process ore of any kind, only stone.

That Basic Assembler will allow you to start building batteries, which will extend your range with vehicles.

The hydrogen engine... isn't always the best way to run things. If you can, put up some windmills ~8 blocks above the ground, with 8 blocks worth of clearance to the sides. Those windmills will run 24/7, without needing fuel, and are pretty cheap to make. They aren't as powerful as an engine, individually, but you can make LOTS of them cheaply. (And seriously, do NOT require extra trips to go get ice for fuel)

@Blizzard...I do have all that Equipment in my Base...have an ore detector, Antenne and that gyrothing in my Vehikel.. ore detection range is 50m..I guess it is still to less...I keep searching..

I always check ice lakes on earth.. very easy to find ores in them. Look for the "spots" on the surface of the ice. When that fails, make a flier and let it charge up batteries while you do other things, then periodically take it out for a spin and look for surface deposits (big rocks with random ores in them). If that's not working, turn on meteor showers and let them impact around your base for an hour until you get what you need.

Uhhh... how can I turn on Meteor showers ?
M.Red Oct 21, 2019 @ 6:03am
you can set these on by changing the game otption (lower right corner) in the load game window
Musashi Oct 21, 2019 @ 9:29am
there is nothimg than LOAD in that corner ;(
Buzzard Oct 21, 2019 @ 4:44pm
On the Load screen, you'd select the world and hit EDIT instead of Load/Start. There is where you'd get the Meteor Showers under Enviornment - 'anything but SAFE'. Be advised that those things will be generally coming from the direction of the sun and headed towards players. Do make sure you have multiple turrets up and able to target meteors.

Got it ... thanx a lot

if everything fails you can use the voxel hands tool to "paint" some cobalt around. But i dont prefer this method as things are getting to easy. but if you really need it.

Or you dump some using Creative tools if you are unlucky with finding cobalt

The large grid ore detector has a longer range. You could build a bigger rover.

Or use a rotor and attach a large grid ore detector to your small vehicle. Will look a bit daft but works.

But generally the small gird ore detector is enough to find cobalt. The deposits aren't very deep and cobalt should be common enough. So, keep cruising around and GPS mark all the deposits you find as you might need the ore later.

You can also visit the trading stations. The mining-type ones have ingots to sell and quite likely have cobalt available. If not, the offering should refresh after 15 mins IIRC.

Edit: Ah, just noticed that you already found it.
