"This TV does not support the output format"

"This TV does not support the output format, video resolution, and/or refresh rate being sent by the connected device"

I have not changed any display settings since the last time I played which has been at least a month ago.
I tried to fix this by changing the resolutions and frame rate in the the .ini file, and have had no luck. I have tried 1280x720 and many others which work on other games I have on steam.

The refresh rate was already set at 0, and I have tried 60, 59, and 30 with the same black screen error.

I can hear the game music, and menu sounds but no video, only an error message "This TV does not support the output format, video resolution, and/or refresh rate being sent by the connected device"

I found a fix! Windows 8, right click the windows icon, choose search, and search for %APPDATA% . A roaming file should show up. Click it and scroll down until you see space engineers, and open it. Find the .cfg file and delete it. Restart the game and it should work now.

I have Windows 7 and Demonsmind's solution works on it as well!
