People can't connect to my server
I'm trying to play with some friends on Space Engineers on a private server hosted using the ingame hosting feature as opposed to the dedicated server hosting as I have a few mods which don't work well with dedicated servers. The problem I am having is that when people try to connect they receive the "Server is not responding" message.

I recently changed my router from a BT Home Hub 3 to a TP-Link, people were able to connect when I was using the BT Home Hub however I'm not in the position to switch back, I've tried port forwarding the port 27016 and disabling various different firewalls accordingly as well as making sure Space Engineers has the adequete firewall exceptions however it is still not working, please help me, I don't know what to try anymore :/

maybe this will help? portforward TP-link[portforward.com]

if you have windows firewall, i think you will have to make an exception for Space Engineers.

Ty for the response however it turns out I've already done all the steps listed and already have exceptions for Space Engineers in my firewall

if your using windows on the server, try the port check tool[portforward.com]. note, you will have to close down the server to allow the app to check that port (default is UDP 27016). just click 'trial' after install, then port checker.

[edit] also, did you give the server a static IP address?

another thing. run the double router test. some modems have a NAT router built into them. if your double routed that would block the incoming traffic. if that is the case you should be able to bridge the connection or bypass the NAT in the modem.

Yup ports are open, checked with that port checker already and yup got a static ip adress assigned

Hmm, that would make sense, I'll give it a try

Ok ran the test, only running through one router, I feel like we're running out of options here

well if it says open as far as port forwarding goes, you should be good to go. is your server set to 'friends only'?
Stinkarelly Jul 13, 2015 @ 12:34pm
Yup it's set to friends only, I've tried public aswell just to see if anyone could join but still nothing

how is your friend trying to connect?
Stinkarelly Jul 13, 2015 @ 3:31pm
We've tried by steam inviting and joining, so via steamworks and we've also tried using the server browser to go directly but both ways haven't given any different results

Was this issue ever resolved for you guys? I've been having the same problem, and can't for the life of me fix it or figure out why it's doing this.

I have done some testing this morning, with the help of my neighbours and their different-ISP internet connections -- I am fully capable of running a server on either of their internets, one being on DSL [1], the other being cable internet [2].

[1]
I DMZ'd my laptop and port forwarded 8766 (UDP) and 27016 (UDP) and ran a new empty dedicated server. It loaded and was visible when I added the IP to my favorites list back at my place, but due to it being DSL, it was very slow. Despite being slow, it is a step in the right direction, since nobody could see my server when I try to host it from my place (I also have cable-based internet, (50Mbps Down/5 Up) with any combination of settings.

[2]
I tested another neighbour's place, with their internet being cable-based with 20Mbps downstream speed and what appears to be open NAT settings. I port forward the same ports, ran the server, checked the IP on my favorites list back at my place, and it was showing up. A fast, steady connection.

So I'm wondering if it's the NAT setting that is the problem? My ISP claims that all ISP's use NAT to send the internet to their client's modems and therefore computers/devices, yet don't support any changes to the software or modems (router+modem combo, in my case.) Their so-called "Tech Support" representatives even went as far as prompting me to call their "Beyond Tech Support" line to resolve my problems, since they "don't cover that sort of thing", which costs money to do, on top of me already paying nearly $100/mth for internet. What kind of tech support doesn't do tech support??
