Broken Game Audio under Linux
my windows install corrupted itself, so i moved to linux. i tried to install SE to play the new update and everything seemed to work fine, but most of the sounds are missing. the audio volume controls don't seem to do anything. there's no audio in the menus, just dead silence. i'm running linux mint 22 cinnamon, if that's any help. assistance would be greatly appreciated!

A while back I think I saw something about needing something (XNA?) installed for menu music, but in-game audio was supposed to still work. I have XNA installed in the prefix, but the entire game is dead silent for me.

Trying to get away from Windows with Microsoft losing their heads lately.

EDIT: Oops! I just saw the similar thread for Windows 7. Looks like that is the answer: https://steamcommunity.com/app/244850/discussions/6/4840897626274583660/

I put the xaudio2_9.dll file in the Bin64 directory of the game and now it has sound.

Given that this is redistributable, the game should include it since it has no sound in multiple system setups without it. (Although, better still would be just to make the game use something more universal. This is the only game I ever saw that required this file to have sound...)

 Yeah, enjoy. The menu sound still can go silent sometimes though. Seems that's a long-standing bug with this game in Linux. If you run into that, it seems it still has sound in the game itself, so don't panic.

I still say the game should at least include xaudio2_9.dll since it requires it but some systems don't have it.

In case anyone searches this page, here's a direct link to the download page with the redistributable: https://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.XAudio2.Redist/ Open the nupkg file as a zip.

The xaudio2_9redist.dll must be renamed to xaudio2_9.dll. Oh, and the current version is 1.2.11 which I can confirm is working with the game at this date. (In case some future version breaks and an older version is required.)
