Need help with our Nitrado Server
We have a 4 man, 3gb Server from Nitrado. It is getting hard lag spikes, when just playing with 2-3 people during the day (from sim 1.00 to 0.1 for several seconds). In the night it seems to be working fine.
We use 0 mods on the Star System map.
Anyone with the same experience, who could give us tips for the settings and the administration of the server?

3Gb RAM? Dude, even a server computer for this game needs a MINIMUM of 8Gb (preferably 16Gb if running planets).
If they're renting you a server that doesn't even meet the 8Gb minimum, then they're renting you a dud service.

Thanks for the answer. Havent found a server(for a reasonable amount of €) for Space engineers, which provides more than 3gb RAM. There are RAM upgrades for Minecraft, but apparently not for SE (Nitrado, G-Portal).

The Nitrado server specs are hard to follow, there's not any specifics, they seem to guarentee you at least 3 GB of ECC RAM, but during peak hours that's probably all they have available, however during off hours you'd have access to whatever RAM SE wanted. But again that's just for the game to use, not counting the server system resources that are used separately, and SE usually wants about 5 to 8 GB RAM to run smoothly.

The main probably is likely that their servers have alot of CPU''s, just that they don't have a high clock speed, likely 2.4 or 2.8 Ghz Xeons, and SE isn't optimized to run on 4 or 8 mid range cores, SE instead wants a couple of CPUs at 4.0 Ghz or higher.

Also make sure it's the Server Sim Speed that is the problem, and not your local Sim Speed connection instead, which is causing the difficulties, which may just be a desync issues.

And bann all rotors/pistons on moving or free floating grids, that will desync the server quickly.

Hello RogueDelta,
thank you for the insight!
I will check for rotors, as soon as the server goes up again.
I am pretty sure it is the Server sim speed, not my local, which is going down all the way to 0. Do you, by any chance, have recommendations for another dedicated SE Server? I would love to try a higher RAM Server, but i just can't find any rental Servers with higher speccs than 3gb for SE.

The pistons / Rotors thingy is an important point. Keep that in mind when managing any server.

Nitrado Servers allocate you the ammount of RAM needed for every game - there is no need to buy a performance upgrade unless you play Minecraft.
There IS indeed a security limit of 10 GB Ram for SpaceEngineers Servers, but that´s for memory leak reasons.

I´m running a Nitrado Server with SE since there are dedicated servers and there aren´t any mentionable performance issues besides the ones in the game itself. Server uses 2-8 GB Ram depending on the ammount of players (15 Slots).
I suggest you contact Nitrado and ask for a reinstall of your server or to move it to another system. This usually helps :)

Also try updating your server and/or mods every few days or every other week, and restart at least once every day or two, as well as spend some time on admin cleanup.

You can also shutdown then download and check your saved Sandbox.scb for errors or inconsistancies, make a backup copy, then edit or fix any issues, and then upload the Sandbox.scb back to the server and restart the game.

If it takes a while to download the world file each time you join the server then either your server world has alot of custom work done to it and/or mods installed, or it's a sign that something is wrong or corrupted and needs to be addressed.

Hey guys, really sorry for the necroposting, but this discussion is on topic for what I'm trying to understand.
A friend of mine has a Nitrado server with 1 Gb of RAM. He said he never had any performance issues. The server currently has 4 slots, and can be expanded to 8.
I wanted to know if having something like 4-5 people connected would cause problems due to RAM. RAM can be upgraded to 2Gb for 50 euros, but I think even 2Gb will be less than enough, especially because there's at least one planet as far as I know.
Would really appreciate any answer on this, thanks in advance !

You may go ahead and speak to your hoster:
Nitrado Servers allocate the ammount of RAM needed for every game - there is no need to buy a performance upgrade - unless you play Minecraft (Nitrado Minecraft Servers do not have this "take as much RAM as you need" option).
There IS indeed a security limit of 10 GB Ram for SpaceEngineers Servers, but that´s mainly for memory leak reasons.

If your buddy has a server with a limit of only 1GB Ram, this server is either some special non-gameserver thingy or just a badly chosen option :) He might change the server to a "publicserver" - no need for any RAM upgrades.

I was renting a server with 4 gb and it was plenty for 6 players. And 30 mods

As this comment was posted over a year ago, I'd wager there have been many performance updates since then (haven't played in some time now).
In any case, I've seen the very same thing with servers with that amount of RAM... at first. That would tend to change very quickly though when you start filling it up with people's creations.
Were you running planets as well and was it up for very long? Also, how long ago was this?
SIeamLuki Jun 4, 2018 @ 7:03am
Server was going for 2 months and i started it 5-6 months ago.. And whoops i didnt check the date :D

Again:
Nitrado publicservers do NOT have the need for a RAM upgrade EXCEPT if they are running Minecraft. All other games do have the needed ammount of RAM allocated automatically (and if it wasn´t for a security limit to prevent memory leaks this would mean infinite RAM).

So this whole discussion is weird. Either you don´t have a "public gameserver" set in yur Nitrado Account or you don´t have a Nitrado Server in the first place.

This thread is very old and usually I'm receiving alert reports from the members in or from the community but not this time.

Kindness may be the key > ''Hey guys, really sorry for the necroposting,''

Since there was no report about ''Necroing'' = I will move to Troubleshooting section, moving ...
