[Mega Thread] Suggestions for Space Engineers
Hello! :)
I'll not update the main post anymore because Space Engineers' team update this game so quickly that keeping this thread up to date is impossible for me.

The comments section has already replace my post for a long time now, so I believe in all of you to keep this thread alive!

I think it's better to have one big list here. If you don't like the presentation, mention it in the comment section I'll try to change it :)
I know it's only an alpha;

BEFORE POSTING: PLEASE MAKE BRIEF AND CLEAR SUGGESTIONS.
EXEMPLE: "-New blocks with different colors." THANKS ;)


Props, solid objects and structures:
-Plants, to decorate the inside of our stations.
-Real windows; I mean closed windows. Glass windows.
-More interior lights; more powerful.
-Bench, table, chair.
-Elevators.
-Teleporter.
-"Wings" props for spaceship.
-Armor cubes the same shape as the interior ramp. Different slope types: currently there is only a 45° slope. 30° and °15, perhaps in a 2x1 formation as opposed to a 1x1 would be great.
-Exterior armored hatches or airlocks. (Perhaps the same type of module that the ladder is made from.)
-A Window with 'corner' and 'inverted corner' shapes.
-Armor cubes the same shape as the interior ramp.
-More color choices.
-Different block sizes to allow finer details.
-Different metal patterns for more diversity.
-GPS.
-Communications room.
-Circular/spherical/rounded block-types.
-Introduce Armor cubes based on aluminum, titanium, and other alloys for components to make lighter Armors and stronger Armors.
-Holding prison blocks.
-Larger doors that slide open, i.e, hangar doors, bulkhead doors: Link found here.
- Manual override switches: Link found here.

Weapon and Tools:
-Laser beams for weapons.
-Space shotguns.
-Railgun/Gauss weapon for ships and stations.
-Grappling hook/harpoon winch.
-Laser turrents.
-Power gun to knock out ship power if it has no shields. Expensive to make.
-Hull shredder kinda like a shotgun blast.
-Seeking missles.
-Plasma cannons.
-Shield blaster- only damages shields.
-Explosive charges, fires and sticks to surfaces it comes into contact with.
-Nuclear powered weapon.
-Gravity beam, pushes ships away or pulls them closer
-Claw like grappling hook which allows you to board a enemy ship
(Maybe too much but: The planet killer - a extremely expensive weapon capable of cracking a planet)

Vehicules/ transportation:
-An "auto-loc" style garage (Borderlands 1/2). Where you can store and save a little ship, and then make it appear in any auto-loc you find, erase your last one.
-A way to save a ship/station design, and paste it anywhere in any server if you had enough resources to build it. (Blueprints that are saved to the character and not a server. So you can build something in single player and bring it to multiplayer if you have the resources.)
-Sort of space-bike. To be a space biker!
-Thrust vectoring for fighters needing to make quick turns.
-A basic thrust vectored cube that combines 2 or 3 axis of direction. Piling on multiple thrust cubes for what is essentially a utility vehicle is overkill.
-More in ship diagnostics and detailed information. (ie, scale of ship)
-Rails, to stick little ship on it. Like trains.
-Air tubes. (Futurama style)
-Gravity generator for small ships (but with greatly reduced effective radius).
-Small ships affected by gravity when generators are off (railgun small ships out of big ships).
-Exosuit. (Robots)
-Joystick support would be nice with the choice of Miner Wars style throttle (100% - 0% - 100%rev.) or classic Space sim throttle (100% - 0% only, reverse with already exisitng reverse key).
-Shields.
-Reflective armor made against laser weapons.
-Impact armor for collisions.
-Space flares for missiles.
-Different kind of interior turrents.
-More interior shields, like barricades to slow down intruders.

Space entities:
-Small planets and/or moons (to harvest materials or build something on them...)
-Some asteroids should have a natural inertia rotating them. (giving the sense the world is alive)
-Lager astroids to make up for lack of planets.
-Space storms
-Old abandoned ships to give some horror aspects , such as finding a wrecked graveyard
-Deralict space stations also abandoned, or maybe not hostile aliens waiting.

Fixes:
-Ghost block transparency: Link

Options:
-To be able to build on sloped surfaces.
-The ability to choose where the game makes it's saves.
-Undo-feature, or save/load based on a structure.

Gameplay:
-Keyboard shortcut for turning on/off individual Reflector lights in the components menu.
-A radar on spaceship or station ( DRADIS style)
-Magnetic walls, to walk on it with magnetics boots for exemple.
-Physic guns. (like Gmod)
-Atmospheric and/or Force field generators. more detailed concept here.
-Remotely hotkey turn a ships generators on or off outside the ship. (car keyfob)
-A Waypoint system like in Miner Wars 2081, but improved to set our own waypoints. I was trying to reach the sun and I lost sight of the spawn platform.
-Occasional Solar Flares from Miner Wars 2081 as a challenge. They can hurt you, but not your ships/stations in its Creative mode. It should when it comes to its Survival mode. The player should be allowed to set the frequency.
-A way to lock the speed while controlling a ship.
-Sounds in cockpit.
-Air Shaft for Air of station and ships (not small ships since it has a cabin)
-Air pumps or air generator
-Purification Chamber (takes off suit when entering Ship)
-Automatic symmetry: you add a block on one side of, say, a vertical plane, and the same block is added in reverse orientation on the other side.
-Gravity boots.

Ideas:
-Something (air pressure) that will allow us to live without our space suit. Because wearing it inside our stations seems strange for me.
-"Quality of life" blocks such as the things to make dining halls, living accomidations, relaxation lounges ect... for larger ships and crew.
-More powerful external lights colored (red and green for exemple) similar to aircraft just to make your presence known and such. And flashing ones.
-Modding as easy as on Source games.
-Randomly generated abandoned stations and randomly generated space wrecks.
-Gravity field stopping walls. (lead walls)
-Trackir™ compatibility.
-Dynamic Scenarios who can be triggered by the player.
-Jetpack animation.
-Free camera for Machinima.
-A hanger interface to dock small ships in. Mining mothership and small mining ship for instance or carrier with fighters.
-Cameras on ships and stations.
-Construction yards and ship design mode. In design mode a new blueprint is generated, which can be passed to a construction yard. The design mode should be more of an editor and less of in-game.
-Meta-blocks (user-defined large blocks consistent of normal blocks) to quickly repeat patterns, rooms, wings, etc etc etc.
-Gravity affects everything in the ship. Like ships when powered off. Loose cargo.
-Great ideas from "SergeantSpade". Long comment can't put here. But worth it, go read it in the comment section. :)
-Stronger drives and reactor cores.
-An omni-directional acceleration unit.
-Decompression getting sucked into space

NPC/ AI ideas:
-AI crew members.
-Hire said crew members from space stations made by player -- or randomly generated station.
-Creating a space station draws NPC's on the map(?) to it to trade or to be hired.
-Space pirates (AI)
-Automated droids that can be custom purposed for what you need, defensive, boarding{Bex}, mining and perhaps even following a template to recreate small vessels when ordered. Just simple machines that you design and can be customised per player.
-NPC (alien for exemple), that you can interact with in some way (trade, fight, coincide peacefully, ect).
-Would be cool if they made space exploring more dangerous by adding 5 types of creatures to encounter, npc traders, pirates, hostile aliens, mutated monsters for horror, robots.

Specialist corner:
-Player options to show unit scales in Galatic Standard (cubes/Newton/Meters per second), Metric (Meters/Kilograms/Kilometers per hour), Imperial scum (Feet/Pounds/Miles per hour).

Ambiance:
-Add random commentry by your astronaught depending on what your activity is.
-Footstep noises. (In airlock station)

Single player:
-A story, scenario mode. With different planets, colonization, trades...

Multiplayer:
-Voice chat for the multiplayer, or voice chat as the voice chat in Moon Base Alpha.

[-Classes for player. (Fighter, commander, medic...) 50/50 nobody is fully convinced about this feature]

Idea for the post Alpha AND Beta:
- Add an achievement system compatible with steam to show your progress in-game to your friends.
-Character creator (A bit useless if we can't put away our suit).
-Add random commentry by your astronaught depending on what your activity is.
-Customization of the astronaut outfit. (flags on their arms, like military people do for exemple)

(Getting the game when its on steam but I've been watching/ reading up on it)
  • Would be cool to have "quality of life" blocks such as the things to make dining halls, living accomidations, relaxation lounges ect for larger ships and crew.
  • More powerful external lights colored red and green similar to aircraft just to make your presence known and such
  • I haven't seen too much of the HUD while in flight but I imagine a DRADIS style radar being implemented.
  • Thrust vectoring maybe for fighters needing to make quick turns?
  • Aliens that you can interact with in some way (trade, fight, coincide peacefully [ha], ect)

Not complaining, just some ideas. Looks like a great game :)

  • Keyboard shortcut to turn on/off ALL exterior lights from the cockpit. Or add 'Lights' to the numeric menu, and make it a toggle button. (ie., 1. Select Gatling Gun. 2. Lights on/off.)

Please add the following:

- Atmospheric and/or Force field generators. I can imagine tuning the field size and shape from the Cockpit menu (and Field Frequency), or just building blocks for the Field so it occupies a set area of open space where cubes don't currently exist. The Force Field would only prevent fast objects (missiles, bullets, other ships) and beam weapons from passing through, and would take lots energy and time to generate the field, but minimal to energy sustain the field. Impacts would 'damage' the field. Energy and time is then required to re-generate the field. If Field block is completely damaged before it can regenerate, that block can be passed through by anything.
