And I have some thoughts from technical perspective on how to make it.
So, auto-targeting block (ATB for short).
- in this block`s menu a player must specify a rotor used to control turret rotation and a rotor that is used for barrel elevation.
- ATB uses both rotor`s limits and speeds (basically - all settings the rotors have).
- ATB requires an antenna to operate (it may be anywhere on the ship).
- ATB has two fields that set at what range they are allowed to start aiming the turret (100-1000, for example) and actually firing them. Weapons still fire within their max range. So, for example, if you set range to aim at 1000 and fire at 500 - your fixed gatling cannon will start aiming at a target at 1000 range and open fire only when target gets to 500. This is made to ensure that turrets will get enough time to adjust their position to meet the enemy target.
- ATB has one slot for a weapon groups. Once they are in specified range - they engage the target.
- ATB can be manually controlled as if it was a basic turret (to be able to do that you`ll need to place it on the outside of the turret or be forced to blind fire).
That`s probably all i wish to add.
Yes, thank you I am not great when it comes to the specifics but this is exactly what i want, and was thinking when i made this thread my only hope is that others who want this too or those who build mods will stumble upon this and it will become a reality, though i just recently found that if you use multiple sensors on the fron, sides and back of the turret and set one function to detect enemies and the other one to fire that the turret will auto rotate in the direction of the nearest enemy, it doesn't auto-fire though, you have to look through the turret camera when firing to see the target :(
